Is it OK to take spears and bows on a night goblin unit? The army book says: May be equipped with spears for 1pt per model or exchange their shields for short bows at no additional cost. I don't ever see this discussion come up and my thought was to take a very large unit of night goblins, like 60 or 70, horde them out with spears and bows and use a spider banner that would be 40-45 shots with a bow that would be lets say 8-12 6s straight up and then another 4 ranks attacking so 40 more hits and 5-9 more 6s.

With the wording "or" I would say you can't have both, since you have to choose between giving them spears OR replace their shield with bows. Usually its listed as two different options or with a and/or otherwise.

Like for example:
May get spears for 1 points per model
May exchange their shields for short bows for no additional cost
or
May take Spears for 1 point per model and/or replace their shields woth short bows for no additional cost.

Spears OR bows means exactly that.
