My friend and I are searching for greener pastures after opting out of WHFB. We've pretty much settled on Infinity as our next game of choice, and I'm thinking of going with the ALEPH faction. Are these guys suitable for a new player, and does anyone have any pointers that they'd like to share?

Sorry to be late to the party. Just joined up on the boards here. Infinity has become the top game for me. I find it vastly superior than other more popular war games. The official community is great. Devs will answer complex rules questions the community cannot resolve. Also the fact that all the rules are online is awesome.

Aleph is a great faction. They are a very stand up hammer your face quickly army. If you pick up the starter box just be aware that it is almost 200 points. I think it comes out to be 180 or so. Other starters might be around 150.

Tips for the first game:

1. Use tons of sight blocking terrain. The game really calls for it. Try and chop down fire lanes to 8 to 16 inches. Make sure there are no open areas were you can shoot clear across the table.
2. This isn't warhammer. Troops die really easy to incoming fire. Stay in cover.
3. Avoid the more advanced rules like AD drop, TO Camo. Try them out once you have the basics down.
4. Use your orders. You do not have to spend an order on each guy. If you have 10 they all can be spent on one person.
5. Try not to group your guys Swat style. A Flamethrower, Grenade, or Missile could make short work of your entire army.
6. Remember you have to touch cover to get cover.
7. Take it slow check for AROs and have fun.

Some useful tools/websites:

http://infinitythegame.wikispot.org/Alphabetical_Index - A wiki for the rules. Makes for good quick reference.

http://www.devilteam.com/ - Can find a great army builder here. They have a link to switch to English.

Hope it helps.
