I'm thinking of adding some Oblits to my CSM army, however not only am I not fond of the current model, I don't think they fit my army at all. My army is a recently renegade force, they don't have much in the way of daemons or warpy things.

For that reason I'd like to convert some Oblits that are more techno rather than magical. Does anyone have any pictures of other conversions/counts-as that they like, or any thoughts of their own? Initially I am thinking of a something akin to a terminator with a backpack like this
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440271a&prodId=prod1140234 . I think that a Doctor-Ock look would be the best way to convey the idea of one man with plenty of weapons. Your views?

Thanks

That sounds like a fun project to undertake. I don't play Chaos but have always thought the concept of an Obliterator was pretty deadly. I could'nt connect to the link you put up, so i can't see your overall vision on this.
Question: As they can have a selection of all major heavy weapons, is there anything saying it has to be on their arms, or can you use the torso and legs as gun housings as well?
Can't wait to see what you've come up with.

Sounds like it can be a good idea and I think the Techmarine is possibly your best bet with all the arms.

I too play a recently Renegade force that is exploring with Chaos, but as the fluff for Oblits are that they just roam from band to band, you perhaps could pass it off.

I am not that fond of the obliterator models either and was planning on doing some conversions once I am done painting up some berserkers. I found these conversions awhile ago by CavPathfinder at B&C and thought you might be able to use his work for some inspiration. Check it out http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?autocom=gallery&req=user&user=48083&op=view_album&album=4319

He also has a really cool defiler you should check out also. One of my favorite conversions I've seen.

I do love that obliterator! Very cool. I was worried about how to do struts and such, but I love his idea of having cables and such supporting the weapons. Very doctor ock, also very chaos. So I think my plan is to buy a chaos termi kit, do some head swaps (possibly for hooded heads like his, or maybe go for bare heads, idk). Get some guitar string or whatever thin, segmented cable and go from there. Hopefully my bits box will have enough weapons, I'd guess I need at least 3 guns on each oblit, so that's 15!

I'd still love to see more though

Fluffwise, it makes perfect sense that a 'recently renegade' force might include techmarines experimenting with previously forbidden weaponry. And statswise, a techmarine (especially in termi armour) with a customised techmarine backpack seems a pretty good counts-as obliterator.

The only downside i see is that a customised techmarine backpack may well be a rather fragile model, both on the gaming table and to transport.

I made these from the CSM Terminator kit.

I friend of mine for his obliterators just put 2 marines back to back on an obliterator sized base each armed with a heavy weapon. looks alright, it's simple and effective but proberly not the look your going for.

For my Oblits I hacked up a *shudder* Mage Knight Shield Golem.

I hacked off the shields which leaves us with nice broad arms that can carry plenty of weapons and switched out the comical feet.
Will get some pics up when I finish them.

Good point about the fragility. Hopefully, with enough pinning and careful drilling/glueing I'll get everything quite secure. Since they're only termi sized they shouldn't be too hard to transport.

On with the conversion!!
