Anyone have good ideas for creating cheap decorative bases. What materials are needed/recommended? Looking for good ideas for my ork army base and tyranid army as well. Right now they are simply painted in Goblin Green. Your help is appreciated.

If you don't want to spend a lot of cash, you can do what i did. Its on one of my Ettrian sites if you want visuals.
Go to Walmart, pick up a $7.00 tub of air hardening clay and a $4.00 White glue/sealant mix (check craft Isle).
You can use it to sculpt good busted cement bases, or Whatever grabs your intrest. I found 1 tub makes like 100+ bases.
Thats my 2 cents.

Sand, cat litter, slate, static grass.

Glue sand & cat litter to base with PVA. Allow to dry. Glue little flakes of slate here & there (use multipurpose glue or superglue). Spray black. Drybrush dark brown. Drybrush sand / litter progressively lighter brown. Drybrush slate progressively lighter greys.
Dab on PVA and apply static grass.

Very quick, very easy.

Terrific ideas, I'll hit up Walmart tonight. Thanks for the tips. I hate making bases but it really makes the models look better.
