I've seen somebody field Abaddon, but not a primarch like Horus. I didn't know he could even be fielded.

Hmm, visually I think some of the coolest HQ choices are the Sanguinor, Astorath, and Lysander. If were talking in terms of badasses on the field then yes, abaddon is a monster! I also like shrike, mephiston, and of course the Sanguinor who hunts orther HQ units like its his job!

Greater Deamon. Preferably a Bloodthirster, as you can give them a 3+ save, but at WS8, S6, T6, W4, A4, I think that that is pretty fair for a Primarch.

Or you could get permission to use the most accepted, most reasonable house rules out there (barring the GW FAQ and Forge World, of course) the boys at the Tempus Fugitives cooked up for Horus.

What are these xenos doing here? And a greater daemon? I'm pretty sure he said pre-heresy SM.

The Abaddon - Horus idea sounds good, just switch the Drachn'yen rule, since Horus had no daemon weapon.

@undivided, i did mean to say pre-heresy, but it doesnt matter

i do agree the avatar is good and so is abby. but i think abaddon would smack them around like its nothing... 5-10 close combat attacks? and re-roll failed wounds? cmon thats just mean...

For pure CC killy power:
Lysander hunts titans for fun.
for me he most suits a primarch- tough, high armour and inv., high strength, eternal warrior. If any SC's a primarch, it's him.
In the BRB it shows a pic of his clash with the emperor- he has, by the looks of it, artificier armour, a "power maul" (counts as power weapon) and a power sword. Make your own rules. I would make him:

WS 6 BS 5 S 5 T 5 W 5 I 6 A 5 Ld 10 Sv 2+

2 Daemon weapons
Artificier armour
Iron halo
Eternal warrior
And a load of usrs

The new Huron Blackheart from forge world might be good. he is a bit of a tank. i cant quite remember the rules but he is powerful, although fluff wise(not really fluff, but he is the closest thing to horus in the 40k universe(sort of)), probably ababbdon,

I'd say Kharn. He never fails to hit someone, and he's immune to psychic attack.

Anything less means you're playing with imperfection that can be turned into a chaos spawn...

Yes, because you're going to leave your lord of ultimate darkness all alone on the battlefield anyways. No matter what you choose, don't follow any advice that leaves him targetable by long-range anti-tank.

And yeah, Abbadon does have some of horus' stuff, which does make him an ideal cadidate. Still, though, you're talking about a guy who can whiff his attacks and nothing happens, or who can be mind warred or gifts of chaosed before he has the chance to do anything at all.

No existing models or units for regular 40k can measure up to a primarch.

Abaddon is the only choice who comes anywhere near within the CSM codex.

Kharn can and will be put down by any hidden power fists, a battle cannon blast, and a whole slew of things that does not require him to be outside of his unit. For his point cost he's a great choice, but for the Warmaster that instigated the biggest Civil war ever, notsomuch.

because a single battlecannon is going to wipe out both Kharn and whoever he's with? As for hidden power fists, they better be pretty well hidden, given the carnage Kharn can do before I1 rolls around.

Yes, Kharn isn't invincible. No, this does not mean he's weak. Picking out the worst possible situations that they player would need to be foolish to get himself into doesn't change that.

Kharn is hardly perfection, especially in Abaddon's shadow. And in context of a Horus-stand-in, there's no way Kharn can measure up to Abaddon.

Logan Grimnar also goes up there. While costlier than Lysander, he is perhaps the most adaptable character in the game (without any detriments of other characters claiming this position). And unlike Abaddon, he actually has a few buffs to his troops, as opposed to the Despoiler's selfishness. I can imagine Logan as russ more than Horus though.
