Does someone have a list of mech based minature games?

Well, the two biggest are obvious: Battletech and Heavy Gear.

Reaper has "CAV" as well.

Battletech is by far the largest and longest running, with 25 years of product out there. est part of it is that you can buy a book made for Battletech that was made in the mid 80's and you can probably still use it today.

Yeah, for a dedicated 'Mech game, nothing beats BattleTech and after 25 years it still has a sizable community. Check it out at www.classicbattletech.com and you can even hopefully find players in your area. I just restarted after a 15 year hiatus and already found players in Winnipeg, Canada.

Also check http://www.catalystdemos.com to find Demo Agents and more players nearby. All it takes it the imiagination to come up with a callsign.

I had a similar question recently. http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=211118 I was looking for a mech game, but I've played Battletech before, and it's a bit too crunchy for me. I wanted something quick to play and easy to learn.

Here's a couple other's to check out

Mech Attack!
http://armorgridgames.com/
I have this one, and am prepping some Mechwarrior Dark Age CMG figures to play the game with. Very much a fast play system with alot of customizability of Mechs, vehicles and infantry. It's a cheap 8 buck download that's definitely worth checking out. After checking out CBT and most of the options below I settled on this one.

Meka Tac (Giant Stompy Robots edition)
http://home.dejazzd.com/broadsword/Giant_Stompy_Robots/GSR_Index_Page.html
Free game. Not very high production values, but seems to be a very solid set of rules and already has stats for a ton of Battletech rules.

Cav version 1
Solid set of rules with a detailed, if somewhat complex unit builder. The current second edition was very different, and the upcoming edition of cav is rumored to be a variation of the first rules set. First edition available here for free.
http://www.cavhq.com/rules.html

Cav Version 2
Current version of cav. Reportedly a good game, but a new edition is in the works so I wouldn't pick it up just yet.

Cav: Strike Operations (Beta Testing)
You can see the beta version of the new CAV rules here:
http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/41077-cav-strike-operations-beta/
It appears that CAV is moving away from the larger scaled models they originally had in order to match the scale of Battletech. They've also made some arrangements with Tallon Games for Tallon games to head up the new version of the game and distribute Tallon Game's line of "rogue legion" miniatures under the CAV banner. http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/CAV:%20Strike%20Operations/latest The ones that look really close to CBT are the Tallon games sculpts.

Heavy Gear Blitz
Never played it, but the minatures are quite fantastic. Free intro ruleset here:

Future War Commander
Based on the Blitzkrieg commander rules. I don't have any experience with it, but my friend tells me it plays faster than Battletech, but slower than the other options I've listed. http://www.blitzkrieg-commander.com/default.aspx?Area=FWC . I don't have the ruleset, but I plan on reading through my friend's Blitzkrieg commander rules next weekend to get a feel for the mechanics.

Mecha
I know nothing about this game except that it is still in print. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecha!?wasRedirected=true

Classic Battletech (CBT)
Clearly the big dog. Formerly know as Battletech. Definitely worth reading through the introductory quick play rules before you commit to the system. You can get them from their website. As mentioend above, the rules were a bit much for me, but I'm a big fan of the CBT universe, fluff and asthetic.

Best of luck in your search for mech bliss.

Although Battletech is an obvious choice, for a solid set of rules and low entry cost you cannot beat Mech Attack - mentioned above.

I bought the main game and supplements on a whim when browsing the Wargames vault and have not regretted it.

The bonus is that it a great game to introduce the younger players into the hobby and no fear of damaged minis, you just print out the replacements.

Just a quick note for correction: It is back to just Battletech. The "Classic" has been dropped from the name.

About time. I guess fanpro needed to differentiate the game from "Mechwarrior" in the early 00's, but I never liked the "classic" label.

Someone should tell the catalyst web designer though...

Hmmmm, hadn't noticed that. I'll mention it to TPTB and see what they say.

Kept that way on purpose. Don't remember the reason off the top of my head, but it was discussed and they decided to leave it that way.

At the time I think it was that DS was overworked.

Ok, the official reason, just given to me was that they have not got a logo yet and it's a low priority for arty types to get them one that will do the job. they'd rather use the time for products.

which makes sense.

Neither did I. However, I do see the point of it, as the Classic Battletech Box Set is essentially the old 3025 Battletech.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

Heavy Gear's community is a bit smaller than Battletech's, but the game play is much quicker. Their minis are good quality with a unique aesthetic, and there's quite a bit of variety in the range. It's big on combined arms, so tanks and infantry play a role as well as mechs. The stock rules work well enough if there's plenty of terrain on the board, like an urban map.

But I'm an unabashed shill for them, so take what I say with a grain of salt I'm able to answer questions about the game, if you have any.
