Hello to any guard players out there. I wanted to start a thread there revolves around anything thats got to do with the Imperial Guard. The reason being is that everyone I play against or talk with think the the guard are crap cause they have weak weapons and armour but to make up for that they have the numbers and best of all THE TANKS and if you know how to use the guard properly then thats a dangerous combination. Anyway I wanted to here from other guard players or fans and just chat about the guard, stuff like your favorite unit or unit you think sucks. Armies you have started or seen, cool conversions etc etc.

Get 3 squadrons of 3 punishers in each one with hull-mounted and sponson heavy bolters and just go nuts shoot anything that looks at you funny.
On the other hand just max out the infantry platoons and take as many mortars as possible, insanely cheap and hilarious fun.
Then there is the get as many chimeras as possible and just make a big wall across the board stopping most armies from gtting past it (if you have noguh you can do a double thickness wall).
Of course none of these are very competetive but damn are they fun to watch/play.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

Maxed out consript blobs. Everywhere. Damned expensive to buy all those minis...but oh dear god. The look or horror on your opponents face when you plop down two 50 man "squads" and just run them straight forward.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

I like playing guard because, done right, you can always have the best weapon at the right place at the right time. Any by "the best weapon" I mean "12 of the best weapons". I also like how you can see your forces losing a number of models that would table your opponent and just laughing it off.

You killed 20 infantry models? Here, kill 40 more! You killed 3 leman russes? I've got another three right over there... and another three over there...

The only real problem with the guard is that the flashier the toys look, the worse they are. New players are so easily suckered in by seemingly awesome units like stormtroopers or punishers or executioners, that they wind up making some really awful lists that just get whomped hard. The more boring you make your list (to begin with), often the more powerful it is.

Since the new codex came out I have actually found myself using the psyker battle squad more now than before since they were redone as I have deployed them about 20 times since and have had some pretty awesome results. I usally field a nine man squad and there have been times when this one sqaud has turned the tide in a battle. One time I successfully rolled a one to determine the ap of the ability soulstorm and then to add to that got a direct hit on the scatter smack on top of a tactical squad they were nothing more than goop and my opponent was gob smacked. He told me later that because of that one move it screwed up his whole game, I won of cause .

Another thing that I was wondering why keep the rough riders, I mean they don't really shout out FIELD ME in my opinion I think they should have redone there rules and made news models, replace them with a brand new unit or just kep them out all together.

Who the hell would say that guard are crap? I've got a friend who plays guard, and he seriously takes power gaming to a new level, I don't actually think i've ever won a game against him.

Rough Riders are kickass bang for their buck. For a minimal investment, they can kick a lot of ass. Sure, they're pretty much dead afterwords, but for what you pay for and what you get, that's just fine.

Tragically yes, a couple of players at my local store are so narrow minded about the guard, they have some weird idea that the guard can't hold there own because they don't have power armour or that there lasguns have no ap value, so what we have the numbers and can field more units than any other army around.

Guard and Spacewolves are the two best armies in the game.

Guard and Tyranids. Great at wars of attrition. It sounds like some of your store regulars just have a bit of space marine fever. Symptoms can include a one track mind for the love of marine equivalents and laziness in thinking that such forces are the only way to be competitive at the game. Reccomended treatment includes throwing lots of plasma and template weapons at them till such symptoms end .

Throw 15-17 independent AV12 tanks, 75-90something infantry, and more heavy/special weapons than they have models at them and that'll likely change quickly.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

And hydras....oh dear everything the hydras. And manticores. And vendetta. Or Valkryie with missile pods (2 large blasts from a fast vehicle that count as defensive? Yes please!)

IG and Wolves are the top two codexes right now, most meta wise (although at our local 50 player space wolves didnt do brilliantly...)

I love guard, I use power blobs so lots and lots of infantry. Then they are backed up with 3 basilisks that just drop hell on my opponent.

Ach I hate Guard

My death Guard 2500pts had the closest of games with them last night! It came down to: "Which is shootier? Basilisk? Or Vindicator?" the answer: Vindi
(Also, T5 FnP Plague marines assisted by T6 plague bikers helped a wee bit )

Still, I hate guard!!

Inexperienced players may mistake the base infantry's T3 5+ and lasguns for weakness while ignoring the strength of the codex. Certainly, it is capable of building extremely competitive lists and can handle any other codex.

Veterans are amazing, as they are cheap, scoring and can carry 3x special weapons. Chimeras and Vendetta give them great transport options. Vendettas are great transports with high mobility and lots of firepower. Essentially, they are an Eldar Tank that Guard can take

Infantry Platoons give dirt cheap scoring troops that can still roll in some reasonable weapons (flamers, autocannons) without getting too pricey. In cover, their numbers become a big advantage and force difficult choices of where to put fire. They also have the option of going the power blob route, which will chew or bog up anything that doesn't have DE number of attacks.

Chimeras are superb transports and pack decent firepower. An AV 12 front with ML and HF is really good for the price.

IG Heavy Support is brutal all around. Hydras, Manticores, Russes, Artillery, etc. Lots of very nasty toys.

Even the weak spots aren't horrible (ogryn, stormtroopers, etc) and can actually have a role,. Just, compared to the rest of the awesomeness, they pale a bit.

Whatever you do, bucket 'o dice is the way to go

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
