If you put rules questions in YMDC you can often get a mroe complete answer.

"Guess" range is a holdover from 3rd ed, when you literally guessed how far you wanted to shoot, e.g. 52", and placed the marker down. THe range "36" indicates the minimum range of the weapon, i.e. cannot shoot at objects closer than this.

Now the rulebook covers "G" to mean "Barrage", i.e. can indirect fire, can fire out of LOS, etc. You still have the minimum range requirements.
