A pair of lightning claws seems like a pretty good weapon choice... but how to model it? Every lightning claw (or powerfist that I could convert to one) is left-handed. I think a marine sergeant with two left arms, power-clawed or not, would quickly be branded as a Mutant Traitor...

So back to the pointful question: where do I get a right handed lightning claw suitable for a Space marine (and preferably matching the left-handed one on the Captain sprue?) Scratch? Saw one off Shrike? Just convert Shrike to the character I want? Or is there another alternative I don't know about?

Might need some work for anything smaller that a Termi, but there you go.

Thx for the link... will have to check that out later... I don't relish the idea of building a LC from scratch.

If you're wanting a lot of them, you could get them commissioned.

Plus, the conversion wouldn't be that bad. Just a few thin pieces of plasticard glued to a fist.

I only need one... but all my SM powerfists are left handed, as is the one SM LC I have. hence the dilemma. I suppose I could convert two regular SM arms/gauntlets into smaller LCs though. That wouldn't be so bad - just green up a vambrace on each arm and put a couple blades on each. Hmm.

You could get a pair of lightning claws from Terminators and shave the shoulders down a lot. I've done it before and it looks... well, it could look worse. I also once saw a conversion using combat knives and unarmed Marine fists, and it looked kind of cool.

There's also this old veteran with lightning claws, which is a really cool model: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440272a&prodId=prod1060049

You could also get some of the Space Marine knives, and covert the model to have them attached to the wrists/fists. Lightning claws don't have to be terminator sized to get the point across.

Yeah, that's my suggestion. Not a terribly difficult conversion, and would be really easy to do and redo if you don't like how it came out the first time.

There's the wolf claws from the wolf guard sprue, they're marine size, I think all you'd have to do is shave any wolf stuff off them.

Or not... part of the reason I chose Deathwatch over any specific chapter is so I can personalize on a model-by-model basis. I've already got a lightly converted Devastator with a Middenheimer head and SW colors on his right shoulder.

I'm liking Ailaros' idea as well, as it would use mats I already have and give me sculpting practice which I desperately need.

Everyone's suggestions are good ideas, though, much to ponder... thanks all

I did this last night and am fairly pleased with the results. They need some finishing and detail, and I'm not sure about the "thumb" claw, but it's not bad. Worst case is if this looks like when I finish it, I can get the metal vet with lightning claws and slap an assault pack on him.

Just use Terminator lightning claws. Cut them off right where the power fist part meets the arm. Cut off normal Marine hands at same location. Voila.

I'm pretty sure the lightning claw on this model is a separate piece.

Got to be honest with you, man... I don't like the conversion at all.
Looks like you just cut the blades off of some combat knives & randomly glued them to the thing's arms.

I think that getting the SW pair of claws, then filing away the SW iconography would be your best bet...

For a CSM Champion, I took the left handed PF. Surgically removed the thumb and fingers. Seperated the fingers individually and reversed their order to be right handed. Modified the hand portion minimally to look right handed by relocating the power conduits and palm detail. Reattached the thumb and the fingers for a RH LC. A small amount of GS. and good to go. Oh yeah...placed it on a right side arm.

I know the SM PF doesn't look much like a LC anymore since that's been redesigned, but on the CSM it looks damn good. Pics are from my phone as it was all I had handy at the time.

I like the idea for the conversion (a few big claws instead of a lot of little ones), but it does need a little more in the execution.

For example, those blades should have some way of making it clear that they are hooked up to a power source, and you should convert something on there that looks like it could be a power source.

In an effort to make Vanguard Veterans with special weapons, I found myself buying an Assault Terminator set, and cutting the Claws and Thunder Hammers at the wrists.

I then take a Pistol and Chainsword arm from a Tactical Marine, cut off the Pistol and Chainsword, and then glue the LC/TH to the arm. The conversions came out pretty good. They look a little oversized for the Tactical Marine to be holding, but at a glance, they look pretty nice.

Space wolf Blood Claws may have the bitz for these, but I know for sure that the SM and SW termies have them. Easier to work with, and you will get 5x TH/SS termies in the bargain.
