Subject: Hero Dueling?

Hello,
I was just wondering when 2 heroes enter a duel, (when i or someone else issues a challenge) do we start in base-to-base combat or can my mounted bretonnian lord start at a range to charge the enemy hero so my lance isnt usless in a duel? I read the rules for the issueing a challenge but it didnt say anything about a mounted hero charging into a duel or anything, or if it did i missed it. Can anyone help me out.
Thanks,

If your unit charged into combat that turn, you will count as charging in the duel, for all purposes. So yes you'd get your bonus.
Don't think of it like a duel where they stop fighting in the middle of a melee and take 10 paces. Think of it like the huge mass of fighters coming together and the two leaders point each other out and rush towards to fight.

Unless you're a Dark Elf in which case you smirk while the opposing leader rushes headlong into an Assassin's blade.

If you have a magical lance you still get the bonuses after the charge.

No you dont. You no longer get the "lance" bonus as that is only while on that charge. YOu would still get other effects, such as "ignores armour"

Page 60, very top. Bretonnians always use thier Magical Lance, even in subsequent rounds of combat. but don't worry about the Lance Rules for +2 Strength but may only be used on the charge (and thus ALWAYS have +2 Strength). Bretonnian Lances have thier own rules to make them only give the +2 Strength on the Charge instead of using the rulebooks Lance Rules.
or you could try to be a jerk and mess with things. but this is Warhammer Fantasy not 40K. people are more reasonable here.
... aren't they?

Every Bret magical lance is +2 strength on the charge. They also have additional stuff like killing blow on the charge, all attacks hit automatically and other things

I was refering to how the rules for Lances now is they have +2S, but you can only use them on the turn you charge. instead of you get +2S on the turn you charge.
if the Bretonnian Lances used the current Lance rules then they could give a constant +2S as they have a rule that allows them to always use the lance. heck, get even more technical and it would be +4 when you actually do charge. if you know what I mean.
of course, Bretonnian Lances don't say this item is a Lance. like how items usually say Shield or Paired Weapons at the start of its description. so that may technically mean it doesn't use the Lance rules anyway. like it says in the BRB
-Unless otherwise stated, a magic weapon is treated as a hand weapon.
rules as intended or rules as writen, it's fine either way. I'm just kinda rambling here...
