I am not a WAAC player, and I'm not a stickler for RAW, but I find it absolutely unbelievable and unprofessional that GW would put out a Codex with new units that do not have defined base sizes. I've seen dozens of Tervigon and several Tyrranofex conversions, and while I think they have been beautiful across the board, they are all different sizes. Some are just a Carnifex with 4 ScyTals, while others look much more like the small illustration in the Codex which makes them look enormous.

But that will be a question for another time. My question to the esteemed readers of Dakka this evening concerns Mycetic Spores. Again, I've seen them modeled, and their sizes range from about twice the size of a gaunt to about 9 inches tall! So here's my question. I'm going to build a master out of one of these eggs (as the underlying structure:

The larger one is almost the exact height of a Space Marine Drop Pod.

So should I start with the one of the right or the one on the left?

Right, perhaps make it so its hatching and a gaunts coming out, maybe make the bigger one for a carnifex etc

Thanks, but I guess that's my point. I'm trying to get some opinions on which size would be acceptable to most people as a "standard" spore. Of course, I will sink part of it into the ground, but should the spore have all the advantages AND disadvantages of a drop pod in terms of LOS and footprint?

There's no official GW opinion yet, so I'd be curious to hear from others.

I have a similar problem. My client wants me to make spores, but I don't know how big they should be.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Either looks fine to me, the left (larger) one looks slightly more believable in terms of holding a fex or a swarm of gants.

I'd model them partly on their side (as opposed to upright like a drop pod), and partly buried, so using either egg would make little difference in terms of LOS and cover.

Looking forward to seeing your conversion, as I'm hoping to do something similar. I'll probably be going for the 'ailen flower bud' look, with 'petal' edges made with hot glue then lots of rextured filler.

Heh, seems all our answers are similar..

My pods are of the larger egg variety. If you make them too small you may not be able to get 20 gaunts within 2" of it. I also like the fact that it is the same height as an Imperial drop pod. I have less LOS complaints from Marine players (read-just about all 40k players) that way. If they gripe I just pull out my own drop pod and set it next to the mycetic. I get a whole lot of silence after that. Of course, after I make my last one, GW will put out an official model.....
