Population of Scotland: 5.2 million
Population of Greater London: 7.5 million
Scotland has 38 independent stockists listed in WD.
London has 15 independent stockists listed.
On balance, I'd rather have the 38 independents than the 14 GWs. Count yourself lucky, Scotland.

I think it's about right. All the major cities have one. Glasgow had two until recently. Where would you put the extra proposed stores? Possibly Inverness and Dumfries just for geographical coverage. I don't see that there's anywhere else big enough to warrant it. ETA Bear in mind that Wales has two and they're both in the south.

there are 4 GW's in south wales, and the shop in chester is not too far to get to in the north, and shrewsbury isn't too bad for mid-wales, plus with this new fangled internet thingy, you dont need to travel to buy your favourite little toy soldiers. I'm guessing by your comment that your a gog aswell then. It would be nice to have a shop abit closer though, but ah well, only thing that irritates me is that I can't find anyone to play, I only know one gamer nearby and he's a lazy git.

What are the other two in the south? I'm only seeing two on the map.
I'm in Gwynedd, right at the end of peninsula so everything's a pretty good distance!

Carmarthen, Swansea, Cwmbran and Newport are the 4 in South Wales, according to the GW site. Yeah Gwynedd is pretty out of the way, you dont live in dolgellau by any chance do you? I live in Llangollen, and I have some friends who used to live there and it sounds to me like they wouldn't mind burning the place down.
*edit*
Just looked again, made a mistake, theres 5 in south wales, there is one in cardiff aswell

Got it, they're over 100 miles from my postcode so they're not showing up! Nope, even further away than that - right at the tip of the peninsula. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=dolgellau&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Dolgellau,+Gwynedd&gl=uk&ei=N3zVTKeMCdO7jAf25b3nCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CB0Q8gEwAA See where the roads end? (near cardigan bay) That's me.

to the OP:
Count yourself lucky, this poor sod above me lives in an undeveloped part of the world, probably had to travel miles to get on the internet to post on this forum.
People, please, if you can spare anything, even a pound a month will keep these poor people in Gwynedd in modelling supplies, without your help they may go months without even seeing a single space marine. With your help we can make a difference. Call now on 0115 91 40000 to make a donation.
.. sorry, i'll shut up now.
on a serious note to the OP, I have heard that individual GW shops do struggle to prove their worth to the company. I imagine that most sales will be made online, so its not a surprise that there aren't many shops in low populated areas of the country.

You think that's bad... the nearest GW shop to my working address is in Glasgow. Which is a five hour round trip thanks to shoddy West coast highland roads. There might be somewhere to play in Inverness that has escaped my notice but that's not much better; 130 miles as opposed to two hundred odd :(
