So I play Imperial Guard most the time, and I usually focus on my vehicle squads, but me and my friends are preparing for an interesting battle focused on troops, and I noticed that for the any squad that can take a Heavy Weapons Team (like an Infantry Squad, Veteran Squad, and so on) It says "Replace two other Guardsmen with a Heavy Weapons Team" but my question is - does that mean that you are limited to having 7 Guardsmen a Heavy Weapons team and a Sergeant, or could I go on to do maybe 2 Heavy Weapons teams and 5 Guardsmen and a Sergeant.

2 guards become 1 heavy weapons team. I agree its not 100% clear but it does not give permission to use it more then once (such words would be "... any two guards men may be replaced by a heavy weapons teams"

yes I'm aware of that, but can I use more than 1 Heavy Weapons team? at the cost of the points and 2 more guardsmen of course

Nope. Only one heavy weapons team in each squad.

I agree that it could be interpreted to allow more than one pair, but that would sort of defeat the point of the Heavy Weapons Squad unit.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

It's pretty clear. "replace two".

Not "any two guardsman that have not taken the upgrades above may".

yeah, while i see your point that it doesn't explicitly restrict you to one HWT, it also doesn't explicitly allow more than one with the wording. squads that allow more than one of anything have specific wording alllowing it like "replace ANY remaining" or "up to 3". those squads have only been allowed a single HWT since the first IG codex in 2nd edition and the tradition continues. i guess it's difficult to change such a monolithic organization!

Yes it does specifically restrict you.

When gw wants you to have the option to replace multiple things etc, it is worded as such.

Replace 2 means 2, period. 1 HWT, if you want more, then just take 5 units of 3 heavy weapon teams each ...

1 troop choice can give you 21 heavy weapon team bases ....

- 3000 pts
- 3000 pts
- 3000 pts
- 7500 pts
- 2000 pts
- 2500 pts
3850 pts

I figured, and thats how I've always played, but it doesn't say only 2 can be replaced, it just says replace two. I appreciate the clarification guys

Right, but it doesnt say replace up to 4 or any other way to get more hw teams. replace 2 with a hw team ...
