What is the trick to getting a nice crisp line from the round part of the shoulder pad to the edge? Is it just a steady hand? I have read that you can use a pen to draw a thin black line around the rim to provide the clean edge. I would like to know how you guys do it. I am painting up a space marine army and I am not too happy with the shoulder pads. I am using a white shoulder pad with a red rim.

Thanks for the help

Take a shoulder pad down to your local art store. Try some of the pens out. Calligraphy pens might be an option as the harder you press the thinker the line.

Make sure the pad is undercoated before going though.

For me, it's a steady hand. Before painting I cut down the caffeine, since it really does affect how steady your hands are. And I'm a caffeine-addict, I should know.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

I tend to use a really diluted black ink wash, which pools into the edges, then touch up any resulting stains. Or I just dont push the brush against the edges when I paint. Either one yields a surprisinly crisp line.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I have one of those micron 0.5 mm pens, I will try that out. I will also try out the wash idea. If I use a thin line of badab black wash around the edges, that should do the trick shouldn't it?
