Is this weapon just too good to be true at 30 points? I'm I reading it right that you can have plus strenght and attack for every enemy in base contact?

Well, you get +1 str and att for each character that you, or your unit touches. So it can be pretty great against some armies which have lots of heroes in their units (I'm thinking Orca and Empire here).

But, I think it is a pretty finicky item because you may be in combat with a monster or a unit without character support. In which case, the sword is useless.

I think its more one of those random new items which can be pretty awesome in some games and pretty terrible in others.

Yeah, I saw it in a number of early builds when we were starting out 8th but haven't seen it much since. Think it might be more of a situational item- include it if you know who you're playing and are building a list to face them.

Don't unit champions count as characters? Though I suppose a lot of people don't use those very often either.

Unit champions do NOT count as characters. they can perform *some* actions like a character, but not all.

Yeah, it's a shame really otherwise htat'd be +1str and att agaisnt most units you face. When you're facing a unit with a character o two in, it is really useful, but otherwise not at all. So 30pts isn't all that underpriced. Really wish i could give that sword to a DE assasin though...

OP, most likely, thought they meant "models" by "characters".

It doesn't work too hot unless the unit's a Deathstar, but can be helpful then: My GW's full of Skaven players who take a Clanrat brick with Bell + Assassin + Chieftain or Engineer.
