I have some questions on Orcs and Goblins. They appeal to me quite a bit but i was looking through the codex and was wondering where the rules for armour and what not is.
Also how does this army play? What are your thoughts on the style and such. Should i wait to get it? (because of a new dex coming out soon?)
Is the rulebook really $70? Even with enough money i would never shell out that amount of cash on a book.

Your armor save depends on the kind of armour you have and is explained in the rulebook. An ork with heavy armor and shield has a 4+ save but a goblin with say just a shield has a 6+.

O&G is rumoured to be the first 8th Edition army book out early next year. This is only a rumour though and by no means confirmed officially. If you want to start now, I'd suggest getting some of the newer models (River Trolls, Boar Boyz, Black Orcs, Night Goblins, Giant, Spider Riders) as these are unlikely to be superceded by new stuff.

This army has a little bit of everything- fodder, cavalry, monsters, war machines, and da boyz are 'ard as nailz. I actually was just reading their armybook twenty minutes ago foor some reason, so this is what I got from my impression.
The rule book IS $70, but look on ebay for an IOB rulebook, as it will be cheaper. It will not come with the pretty full color pictures, but it has all the rules in a pocket sized- book.

It's a pretty solid army, and in my opinion extremely underrated this edition.
Very solid magic defense with a spirit totem and the staff of sneaky stealin'.
Great warmachine spam with doom divers, rock lobbas, and the dirt cheap bolt throwers.
And a solid core block with Night Goblin Nets w/ Fanatics.

I love my O&G horde. Two things to be made aware of though. First and sometimes a deal breaker is animosity. Basicaly every unit in your army except warmachines trolls giants and i believe squig herds and riders require you roll a d6 before movement. On a roll of 1 the unit breaks down into fighting and squablling and is useless the whole turn and not allowed to do anything. But on a roll of 6 you get a free move which balances out the 1s. A good O&G horde is full to the brim with models so expect to spend a lot of time on painting and assembly to get a table standard painted army. A great example is I played a 2k game tonight and had just under 200 models fielded.
Now one of my favorite parts of the army is the feel to it. It just has the feeling of bieng rich on background and just flavor while at the same time bieng a blast to play. I have to say O&G really has this special feel to it that is just fun. Where else do you have a army full of murderous brutes and then all of a sudden your launching little goblins with spike balls out of goblin units into other players armies and then watching them randomly run around the field till they either explode in a unit or smash into a tree? I can honestly say that using fanatics and the whole doom driver catapult really adds a perfectly comedic value to the army. In case you didnt know a doom driver is litteraly just a giant sling shot that you shoot goblins with home made wings from lol.
Also when using greenskin magic it feels more personal in a way. For instance i used the spell mork wants you which causes the greenskin god to pluck any model from the field and beat it up. To me that just has such an awesome touch to it. I believe the spells wording is something like morks hand reaches out of the sky and squishes its target between its fingers.
As I said I am a fan of Orcs and Goblins they just have so much character to them and most people dont realize how good they can truly be. I wiped 1200 points of ogres off the table using 30 goblin archers who had poison added to them.

I'm pretty set on getting them if i did start warhammer fantasy but now i'm looking at something new.
Warmachine or Warhammer Fantasy. You see i'm currently going through a tau force and need to buy about $200 more of models to complete it. I love the background and look of orcs and goblins but warmachine is a lot more cheaper and i do have an army in preference for it as well. I'm tied on which one to get. The biggest issue is price. Even with enough money its just the idea of spending that much more. What do you guys think about my dilemma? What would you do?

Honestly amassing a good O&G force can be quite pricey even if you ebay most the army. But I love mine and once its finished im starting another army up as well.
I have never played warmachines so I cant voice an opinion on them.
