Although I know this is still a good way off (20 months approx), having just picked up the new DE 'dex (very shiny I must say ) and seeing the 2 flyers in the heavy support section got me thinking.

IG already have (fluffwise) flyers and AA units in their list and the rumour mill has already started turning with the prospect of the DE flyer kits being made so that future CE flyers can be adapted from them with minimal fuss.

Given all this, what do we think the chances are of seeing flyer rules incorporated into the mainstream come 40k6?

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

I personally hope not. Primarily, it's taken til 5th edition just to get rules for vehicles settled, though they are still a little OP in this edition. Secondly, I'm tired of the expanding growth a game of 40k is continually seeing.

1500 pts is still a sweet spot for a good game of 40k. 1850 let's you be more extravagant in spending some of those points and anything more really just needs to go on to being Apocalypse sized. Flyers will make regular 40k grow beyond 1850pts. I have yet to have fun playing a game over that limit.

So flyers for 40k? I do not want. Flyers for Apocalypse? Sure, roll with it and have fun.

Apocalypse was meant to expand upon the core rules, taking things up to Epic scale within 40K. Aircrafts rarely operate alone, and for small skirmishes it's usually not feasable. However to buy that many aircrafts for an existing army might be pushing it for anything outside of Apoc.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

To be honest I think the the new Dark Eldar flyers could be pretty devastating in 40k apocalypse. And I'm all for more detail in apocalypse rules. Making flyers a mainstay of normal 40k though? I'm not sure.
