Archaon in the top 3!!! That's hard to believe, its a terribly goofy miniature. The rest of the top 10 is very solid though

I can only assume that there were a lot of 'faction votes', where people voted for their team rather than dial up a little objectivity.

Yeah I'm surprised at the number 1 and 3 spots. Archaon is from that earlier gw era post wfb where they were just going for big and added stuff on the big models. At least he doesn't have the spirit energy effect they were obsessed by then.... I think morathi suffers a similar issue being From the same era.

I'd put vordrai and ionus above him in terms of design quality.

But even belekor is mostly just big. He's a technically well made model but there's not a lot to him. Just a muscular body and wings.

I was particularly impressed by kroak when he came out as they augmented it in interesting ways and the floating effect was clever. I also thought that alarielle was a well composed model with interesting design choices. She's also from that earlier era but seems to have different emphasis. Her wings aren't giant, her headdress isn't monstrous like morathi, her beetle isn't even that big. It just has a nice proportionality while still being impressive.

1 surprised me if only because I never saw Flesheaters as being "that popular" (and lets face it one weighted element of the votes is "that's my army").

But still a fantastic model and not one I'd gripe at taking the win. It was also great to honestly see a good few earlier models like Morath and the Everqueen taking slots as we've had a good slew of really fantastic models since them.

Harbinger of Decay sculptor must really feel proud as that's the smallest model in the set by far and it secured a very strong position. Just really shows how awesome that sculpt is.

I must be missing something, that winning model is very meh to me, does nothing for me.

Top 10 looks great.
Didnt expect Alarielle to be there to be honest.

Also didnt expect Archaon to be third best, but it makes sense as he pretty much define and represent the original AOS feeling.
But even if he is iconic by now, he looks pretty dated and really show that early AOS design. I would think he is up for a remake sooner rather than later.

Giving it a little more thought, I would probably swap out either Belakor or Archaon for Tahlia Vedra. Stunning model and probably one the best manticore models ever made.

I thought the majority of the winners were great, most of the ones I'd pick are in there though I didn't give it a huge amount of thought so there would be a lot of recency bias in my case. Ionus, Harbinger, Vizzik, Belakor, Ushoran all very good models. Dankhold Troggoth, Trugg, Mega gargant, Lord of change, Slann starmaster would have been good picks too. Oh, and Fusil major ogor.

Have to say the top ten confirms that my tastes are very different to the average AoS fan. The Harbinger of Decay is the only one of those I really like. I voted for the Ogroid Thaumatheurge myself (ogre mage gw, ffs) because I think it's a great take on that monster.

I just can't see that many people voting for that SC dragon, alarielle or the abomination that is the reimagined dorghar.

I was a little surprised at the stormcast dragon winning - I think the new griffin wins out (but that one might be tainted because they had to lose another great mount to get that one) and the other solo dragon kit they've done for stormcast I feel is superior.

Ionus is a fantastic piece. Probably one of the best dragons they've ever done. And Alarielle is probably one of the best female models they've ever made.

I have to agree that Ionus is a great model. I like that they did smaller lurking sportsdragon instead of a huge mess for the sake of beeing big and imposing.

I definitely love Ionus, but then I'm biased because I just painted mine earlier this year (and it was a ton of fun to do!).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

In hindsight, while this was cool, I wish they had got a bit more granular with the nominees. Top 5 Hero, Infantry/Monstrous Infantry, Monster, etc maybe spread it out amongst the grand alliances.

No Tahlia Vedra is bananas.

No Ork/Goblin model or however they call them in the top 10 which is basically the only AoS range I really like. Yeah, I guess I know why I'm not playing that game.

It's the armchair!!

Pretty happy with those results, although no 1 was a give. Would like to have seen Morathi and Ionus a bit higher.

Maybe I'm just biased against the faction but Ushoran as number 1? Among all these big centerpiece models with lots of details here's some big dude on a base.

The other 9 could really be shuffled in any order and I'd pretty much agree they're all well designed.

It's a poll based on asthetic preferences so every vote is biased in a way. I actually absolutely love that model and have no interest in the game let alone the faction. If he were ogre sized instead of giantic monster sized I'd have bought him for RPG purposes. I agree though that there has been a bias towards ridiculously large centerpiece models that should probably be dioramas over the past decade in their online polls.

It's not an easy conversion to resculpt the saddle into something smaller. Im still looking for another female mini to replace the current one. The manticore is 11 out of 10 but the rider only a 7.

Oh, I thought we were supposed to only vote accordance to party lines.

I do wonder if the GW staff's votes account for more than ours.

She does not look happy or friendly XD

Its looking to be a nice simple group to paint up, but the manticore knight will have to be repurposed.

The model or the big ass base? If the model/character himself, why? I haven't seen him in the wild.

I'd be constantly worried if I were in armor that took minutes to take off when I have to suddenly pee too. The art makes her look angry but the shading on the model makes her look undead to me.

Hey now, hurting the feelings of Beasts of Nurgle is NOT cool. They are adorable.

Bren Tylis have a weird armour but cool sword. I think she would look ace in a more interresting paintjob. Not really sold on the pose, but the face looks great with that aristocratic involuntary snarl.

Does she have a lantern on her back?

Thats actually, for once, a pretty reasonable use of lantern in AoS. If you wade through the nurgleinfested sewers of Darkwater with a great sword, that lantern is pretty convenient.
