Hey everyone,

We will be hosting our 'Second Saturday' GW tournament this Saturday, November 13. Sorry for being late on the notice; I didn't think planning and executing a wedding in Vegas would be so time-consuming, shows what I know!

On the 40k side, we'll be continuing with the streamlined, 'thumbs-up/thumbs down' format for scoring with 20 Battle Points possible each round. This has been going very well and I see no reason to change what's working. The last couple months have been super smooth events, starting promptly and ending with plenty of time for everyone to go have their Saturday night.

For Fantasy Battle, we will be ready to run at 2250 points; we did have a tournament last month and I had a lot of good talks with those who attended, resulting in the drop in points back down to 2250 (the White Dwarf ad says 2250 too, so I figure there's no reason to mix things up) and I'm going to begin experimenting with some new concepts for soft scores to start the adaptation to 8th edition.

For both events, we will be running 3 rounds starting at 10:00am, with a $10 entry (or $20 purchase). There will be prizes for Best Overall, Best General, Best Sportsman, and Best Army. Prizes are awarded in GW product of the winner's choice.

I altered the prize payout at the last event, to 75-25-25-25 and will keep the same spread for this one; I think that was better than the previous split; the winner still gets a good-sized haul, and the other finishers can actually get something!

The schedule will stick as closely as possible to the following:
9:00am - 10:15 - check-in, sign-up, event preamble, pairings
10:15am - 12:30pm - Round 1
12:30 - 1:00 - Lunch
1:00 - 3:15 - Round 2
3:30 - 5:45 - Round 3
6:00 - Winners announced

Finally, if anyone out there is interested in being available as a 'ringer' for the at least the first round or two, I would be very appreciative and spiff you accordingly. Basically, you'd pay no entry fee, only have to play for the first round or two as your schedule permits, and get some swag in exchange for making sure the odd man has an actual game, instead of just free points. And if we get a even number of players, you'd be free to hang or bail as you see fit.

It's looking good for me being able to come and redeem myself after last months terrible performance . Darrian and his Orks better watch out for the Wolves of Fenris (or will it be Salamanders ?...)

I'll do my best to make it down for the Fantasy. Haven't even took out my fantasy figures since last tournament =P. I can feel the rust when I walk past my Fantasy Motor Pool.

I don't know, after going 0-3 last time it may be more of a cakewalk to beat me than you could imagine

Looks like we should have a solid turnout; I just talked to one of the regulars here in the store who's planning on bringing a crew for the 40k side, none of whom have played in any of our tournaments before.

How was the Fantasy turnout?

I think 3 guys showed up. Luckily they also brought 40k armies so they played on the 40k side.

Darrian wins another event after his long absence? Sounds like he still has the killer instincts. I need to get down and get some revenge for the last time we played and all I had left at the end of the game was a drop pod!

I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who attended for such a quick and smooth event. We started just after 10:30, and the scores were in and prizes awarded by just after 5:30! I think that was the fastest event we've done here yet!

We did not end up with a WHFB event, I know a few people brought Fantasy armies just in case, but we didn't get any other players and I can't run a tournament for 3-4 guys.

I've been talking with some of the Fantasy players out here about some ways to shake things up and breathe some life back into the beast; one idea that has been tossed around that even I kinda like is to run an escalation-style tournament, with three games played at 500-1000-1500 points. We shall see what ends up on the actual fight card though...

Regardless of all that, we will be doing it all again in December, on Saturday the 11th, so get your armies ready.

My victory was pure, unadulterated luck. My "juiced" Dakka dice helped too. (By juiced, I mean they have been soaked in the blood of innocents)

That Chaos Dreadnought of DOOM didn't hurt, either, apparently!

Escalation sounds like it be fun for fantasy. Brings some variety to the table.

I think it could be cool; not enough points for anything too silly.

We're discussing options, I think we might try a league in a month or so to test it out... Either way, stay tuned!

I should be able to make the next one with my lizardmen. I'm still pretty new so I don't know how games will work out with time limits and all, have you been rolling for a random senario on the fantasy side?

For WHFB, I usually pick three scenarios with varying degrees of randomness prior to the event so I can get everything printed up for the players beforehand. I always have at least one basic Pitched Battle-style scenario, and then two others that aren't too off the wall. I recently found my old stash of GW scenarios from the late '90s/early 2000s so I'm probably going to try and integrate some of those old rules into the newer stuff.
