As I stated in an earlier post, I just got the IA8 book, and I'm a little confused about some of the rules. For example, when can I use this list? Can I just walk into a GW store and play a Dread Mob list? Do you think anyone would object, since the book is not readily available to everyone?
Another question I have is about the Kustom Meka-Dread and Mega-Dread. The Kustom Meka-Dread has a note that it can be used as a Heavy Support choice in a standard ork army which also contains at least one other Mega-Dread. However, the Mega-Dread does not contain any note that says it can be used in a standard Ork army. So, are we to assume that the Mega-Dread can also be taken in a standard ork army as a Heavy Support choice?
This might be a dumb, nitpicky thing, but I'm just concerned that someone would refuse to allow me to play the Mega-Dread if it doesn't have that footnote in the book, which would also disallow me from using the Kustom Meka-Dread. What are your thoughts?

Yes, No and Maybe ... IA is sold and recognised by GW but you can only play a game if you have some one that agrees to play with you.

And the problem is that many people find IA unbalanced and simply won't play you.

So if you want to make IA list make it but also make sure you have a codex army in case they don’t want to play against IA

I own 4 Megadreads, 1 Mekadread, and 8 grot battle tanks.

I bought them knowing that I can use them in 1) Friendly games with people at the store, and I should ask them first. 2) Apocalypse 3) Tournaments like the Mechanicon's Friday Night Fight. 4) Anyplace a TO or even organzer says I can.

The list is not a normally legal GW army list. The models are not normally allowed in a regular ork list. The footnote isn't permission to use them, it tells you how they can be used if your opponent agrees, or the TO is allowing them in.

So don't expect to be able to use them, ask the appropriate people. i'll be using the mega dreads a lot as regular deff dreads, and may proxy the Grot tanks as buggies.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

As noted right on the front of the book, Imperial Armor volumes are 'expansions' just like Apocalypse, Planetstrike, Spearhead, Cities of Death, etc.

That means you and your opponent have to be okay with playing the 'expanded' game, just as you would with any of those other expansions.

Another question I have is about the Kustom Meka-Dread and Mega-Dread. The Kustom Meka-Dread has a note that it can be used as a Heavy Support choice in a standard ork army which also contains at least one other Mega-Dread. Those footnotes about where they are used in the army are one of the things most commonly screwed up in Forgeworld books. The first rules for the Mega-Dread were found in the Imperial Armor Apocalypse 2 book and in there it was a Heavy Support Choice for a standard Ork army. So I think you can safely assume that is a typo...also in the back of the Imperial Armor Apocalypse book it has a list of all the available units for the game and what Force Org spot they take up and the Mega-Dread is indeed listed there as a Heavy Support choice. So I would hope anyone who is friendly enough to let you use the model would also be willing to take this into consideration as well.

And the way I approach friendly games with IA stuff is to simply say to my opponent, 'hey would you mind if I use XXX Forgeworld unit? I have the rules if you want to take a look at them before the game.' And that usually works just fine, although there are occasionally a few people out there who have an irrational fear of Forgeworld units.

There are generally two issues encountered when wanting to use FW rules.

Firstly, most people are unfamiliar with them. If they've encountered them at all it'll be the one or two overpowered items or people like point two, below.
Secondly, some people use their opponent's unfamiliarity with those rules to cheat (seen it several times).

If you've got the book and take a moment to go through the differences with them most people don't mind. (and usually come to see quite quickly that most FW units and armies are under-powered, over-priced or both)

If in a friendly game people balk at playing an IA list, have a chat with them first. Be willing to be flexible and take the time to go through the list and special rules. I don't think anyone dislikes playing something fresh, what they dislike is an AH-HA moment at which their entire army is useless. Going over the special sauce with them gives them a chance to change their list or tactics to get the two armies on an even keel.

But isn't it always true that no matter what type you play you can only play a game if you have some one that agrees to play with you.

Yes and it helps to remember that! Also It's two things 1) get them to play a game with you 2)include IA units ... not to mention 3)play PS/Apoc./BS and so on
