I love Confrontation pre-painted miniatures. The problem is I cannot find anyone who has attempted to convert and/ or paint these figures. I am looking for any advice on stripping, cleaning and painting these miniatures. I know some pre-painted figures like Heroclicks, At-43, and Mageknight take repainting well. On the other hand I have seen the disastrous results from trying to paint DnD pre-painted figures. I really would like feedback before blowing $80.00-$120.00 on figures. Thank you for the help everyone.

Converted and painted , and no stripping nor primers needed. Painted right on top.

Don't know about Confrontation, but most pre painted cheap plastic miniatures are not painted, but cast in that color. Usually it doesnt affect details.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do. |

Step 1) Wash with soap and water
Step 2) Prime it like a usual miniature
step 3) Start painting.
Believe me, I've painted lots of pre-painted miniatures, including Mage Knight, Dreamblade and Dungeons and Dragons miniatures. Not to mention my nephew's toys.

@Starsdawn
is soap and water really enough? I actually have some pre-painted ones myself, that i'd like to re-paint, and i'd hate it if the little cracks 'n' details got filled up with too much paint!

No it won't remove the paint, but most prepainted miniatures only has one layer of paint. And a thin one at that. What difference will it make? If you want, you can compensate by using thinner layers. Don't forget to prime, especially if the pre-paint is semi-resistant to other paints.

Worse comes to worse, dip them in simple green and you can start from bare plastic.

This should be done regardless IMO, but I'm massively OCD when it comes to mini's. You can do a 1 part simple green 1 part water mix. Let the mini's sit in it overnight and it will remove acrylic paint without damaging your primer....unless you leave it in there for weeks in which case you will ruin an entire squad of chaos marines. Not that I did that or anything........

No. Simple green will not work on Pre-painted minis. Don't waste your money.
Pre-paints are painted with a Pva based paint that is sent through an oven and baked on. Only quick dips in harsh chemicals or sanding will work.
On most of my hero-clix mods and repaints I just prime and paint. If I have an expensive commission I hit it with carb cleaner and rub off the top layer of plastic.
