Hi,
I have a small question about the combination of point blank and gang. This came up during a match of Cryx vs pirates. I was using revenant crew and my opponent the usual piratey goodness.
He put his pressgangers on my revenants, killing 2. I subsequently charged him and tried to hit him, missing. Then I wanted to use point blank, at which point my opponent said it could not use gang, as it was a shooting attack. A round later he thought it might be possible as point blank says you get to make a ranged attack in melee. Because I could not use it in my turn we decided that he also could not use the combo this game, as it would be difficult to reset the turn for me.
In the end the questions on this are:
- does gang work on point blank attacks?
- the shot goes in melee, does this mean I use MAT or RAT?
In the end it worked out for me. he killed some of blackbanes, but missed blackbane himself, allowing me to regrow the group back to 6. He then failed an assasination with shae. I forgot about his feat, allowing him to get a bead on skarre. However he missed with blow the man down and then could not land a shot. Although I was pretty confident that an arm 20 skarre with al but 1 wound left could survive the onslaught of pistols. The only thing I was worried about was a mariner with boosted shot, but that also missed. In my turn I let skarre cast dark guidance and I put a slayer in shae's face. He did not survive that.

Point blank is a melee attack (says so in the ruletext) and therefore uses MAT and allows gang and other melee oriented buffs.

Point Blank and gang make them usable in combat with infantry.
But it is not a reason to take them over McThralls other than for theme.
I love my Rev Pirate models. But I am not a good enough player yet to live with their short-comings.
Also, they are very slooow in timed tournament play.
To get all their damage potential you have to make all the rolls, plinking for 1-3pts vs jacks. That takes up a lot of time.
As does re-placing models if the Qmaster lives.

Revenant Pirates are my favorite cryx unit to run as terminius's meat shield, 2 attacks at mat 6 sometimes mat8 with maladiction mat10, if rengrave is in sight mat12.
plus they respawn everyturn as long as i make sure the quarter master dosnt bit it.

Yes you can make them hit better.
But making them hit hard is not as efficient as just taking something else.
They fill the "flexible short-range shooty with 2 melee attacks" slot that PP created them to fill.
Trouble is, if your opponent has any high ARM jacks, any other infantry fill the list just as well, if not better.
Thats why Bane xxxxxs and McThralls are so much more common in lists.

mm, well I took them in a skarre pirate list (without satyxis as of yet) and they held their own in the game. I like the list and they have uses , but I have to learn to protect the leader more. He got killed because I forgot to kill off the harpooning troll and he had a good roll to hit and kill him. I still had 1 left + rengrave though, so it soon became 2

Yeah, keeping the quartermaster alive is the real trick to the unit. They're a grind unit, to kill models and replace their losses. But CMD 7 is a real kicker for them, as it makes it harder to place the QM somewhere safe to recycle the unit back.
And I don't use them as anti jack: I have other things in my list for that. They're very much a "clog this point" force.
Unfortunately, Mechanithralls are super cheap, super effective, have a solid WA in the Brute Thrall, and have access to the necro surgeon. And everything that makes the Pirates better makes the Thralls better (Skarre Dark Guidance/Feat)
