Do power weapons confer any benefits when assulting vehicles? I know against infantry they negate the armour save, but wasn't sure if there would be any comparable effect vs vehicles... We had a situation last night where a unit of IG with power sword equipped Commissar could use nothing but harsh language against an assult from a unit of Kanz (after chucking their 'nades)...

On a more general note, is this a situation that crops up often, where infantry are powerless against a vehicle assault and can only sit there and be pummelled (and maybe hope they fall back and can regroup)?

No power weapon bonusses against vehicles(unless explicitly stated).

And when you refer to a vehicle assault, I am assuming you mean a Walker, because normal vehicles don't assault and don't lock your units into combat. But if it is a walker, yes you will have to stand there and wait till they are all dead from the Walker.

Yeah, it was walkers specifically. And thanks for the help. It did seem a bit odd that infantry would have no option but to wait for the inevitable, but thinking about it in "realsitic" terms, if I was up against something like a Kan with nothing but a laser pointer, I'd have precious few options! Although I'm sure I'd have it away on my toes 1st!

This is why it's so common to see melta bombs or powerfists on marine sergeants - it gives the squad a chance.

Unfortunately, there aren't really any useful options for a regular guard squad.

Apart from melta bombs on the sergent! Plus any self respecting IG blob has a kitted out Commissar. Remember the IG mindset; you don't have 20+ guardsmen, you have 4 power weapon attacks with 20+ wounds.

One exception I can think of is the Warscythe or Ctan ignoring the invul save Bjorn and the Dark Eldar flicker field have.

It would be nice to get a bonus against vehicles. You would think if I rammed my power sword through your bullet proof window, it would do more than a regular weapon would.

Oh well, there is always 6th edition. GO PRE MEASURING!!!

You said "after they chucked their nades". You know grenades are not single use, so if your squad or just the comissar has grenades they can use them in each round of combat.

I'm sure I saw something to the effect that they are single use... Will have to go back to check...

Yeah, I understand this pain. I spend four turns locked in combat with a damn sentinel and now I understand what tar pitting really means!

Only thing i can think of that would sound like that is a demo charge. Which is effectively a large grenade. However it is used in the shooting phase ... LOL all round if it could be used in Assault.

nope it was nades hehehe melta and krak to be specific but i understand that 1 now, it is "single use regardless of number of attacks, not single use once per game"

i also got a question regarding the bout we had against archroy the other night but unfortunatley it must wait as the dentist is waiting for me to arrive.
