Hi guys! I want to start a dark eldar army(I ve been playing space marines for 3 years)
I want this army to be highly mobile and hard striking.
i have 70 pounds to spend.
Which units should I buy?
what if I take 3 reaver jetbikes

Should i take witches?

well, I'd start with
2x 10 Warriors (could also count as Wracks),
2 Raiders,
1 Haemonculus.
I'd stay away from the Jetbikes in the first place.

But what I heard is that there are some Warriors also in the Raider boxes so that you could start with Wyches as well.

I play tyranids, so take what i say here with a grain of salt:

I played a skirmish (750 pts) with my buddy who is new to DE last night and they are AMAZING! I completely underestimated the first turn charge (which is highly possible using the raiders & wyches or incubi) - keep the raider turned sideways for deployment, do a free pivot and move 12", disembark 2", fleet, assault. As long as you roll a 2+ on your fleet, and the opponent is pressing the 12" deployment line, you have a first turn assault. it's sick!

So based on that and the combat effectiveness of wyches in general, i say start with raiders and wyches. Hydra Gauntlets > razorflail >shardnet impaler, in that order. Dark Lances = Yes!

i'm sure other DE players can chime in more effectively than i have so far. But i was thoroughly amazed by how well the army played.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

why dont you like jetbikes?

Jetbikes are too fragile. They were next to useless in the old codex.
If they face one or two casualties, they have to pass an ld test. If not, they fall back and rarely make back their points.
There are better FA options in the codex like Scourges or even Hellions.

I do like the jetbikes but wound count is what you are giving up. With the overfly blade attacks and heat lance options you have a unit say 6 bikes that can without modification cause 6d4 S4 attacks on an infantry unit then depending on the situation can follow it up with 8 Splinter rifle shots and 2 heat lance shots. T4 and a 5+ save just makes justifying the point cost hard because they will die to heavy bolters or the like.

And what about Talos pain engine and cronos parasite engine?

Wracks are just constructs of dead things. You can counts as pretty much anything as them as long as they're gross looking.

IMO, in friendly games, just double-use Warriors as Wracks. Most people won't care, and the models coming out in February might call your name.

IMO, the Talos and Cronos blow. Wait until the plastic kit comes out for the Talos as well - $55 is WAY too much to invest in such a bad unit.

ATM you're going to need an Archon, 3-4 Raiders, a box of Warriors or two, and a box of Wyches or two. That'd be a great place to start if you use the Warriors as Wracks for versatility. Look around for some sick looking GW models to use for Haemonculi - the current "Pregnant Grandma" models are awful.

I mean what is your general impression of talos pain engine and cronos parasite engine as a unit.Is it efficient in DE army?

If you're thinking about buying jet bikes my question to you would be.... given that they're really fast, what are they going to do once they get wherever it is they're going? their options seem limited to me.
Incubi are solid. to me an auto include for a dark eldar army.
I think you should take wyches over warriors as your troop choice. warriors are just blah to me. wyches at least have a well defined roll and are reasonably good at it.

(I know you didnt ask me but....) the cronos parasite engine is awesome. the talos less so. the difference is the quality of their ranged fire power. the talos has some ok guns but the cronos' guns are alot more aggressive.

For once I'll agree with AF, I like Wychs better than warriors.

If you take Incubi though, you are basically forced to take an Archon with a grenade launcher (not necessarily bad).

If you like Haemonculi, then wracks are a great option for troops.

I have been trying basically a wych army complete with Bloodbrides and Succubus (1 unit of warriors and 1 unit of trueborn as well, with the mandatory 3 ravagers). IT works quite well. Then again I am just loving fleet.

Like AF said, a Chronos is a much better option than a Talos - mainly because the reasons he gave, and the ability to give pain tokens to units with an aura.

Either way, the Chronos doesn't have a model yet, so don't waste the $55 on a Talos. Find a good proxy.

What if i convert eldars wraithlord in a very evil way and treat it as cronus engine?

doesnt the fluff describe it as some kind of evil spider looking thing? I would try to model it at least partially on the way its described.

I think wracks would be easy to build. The only problem I have with wracks is that the reason I am tempted playing eldar is that I like the new models so mutch.

But this is how I would build wracks: Grab as many diferent troop packs as possible, preferably 3 diferent. Try to get at least 1 bear chested (fantasy beatmen perhaps) and try to avoid a lott of recodnisable clothing, like power armour. The idea is that wracks are scratch builds of many diferent creatures decapitaed, sewed back together and then given steriods. Try to get them in plastic. Cut of arms/heads and sometimes feets and just glue them together. Give each a sharp crude weapon. Preferably sickels.

If the sice fits (compare the models, I have not done it yet) try to go for these:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440265a&prodId=prod1060163

I can picture them macking fine wracks.

As for the bikes, I think they are cool. But remember that although bikes, scourges and the sky boards all move quite similar they have diferent army functions.

EDIT: For the Chronos there are pictures of it on page 4 and 41.

Good luck.

To tell you the truth,I am going to start an army using dark eldars codex. They are not supposed to be dark eldars they will have similar armor. My 2nd missing legion Angels of salvation created a sort of scout company called Death Watch(dark eldars)
they are humans but wear armor which is similar to dark eldars one. Here is the threads about my legion:http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/310648.page.
what I mean is that i wont have wracks or wytches in my army as they dont look like humans.
What do you think of this idea?
