I figure with the leakage of the stormraven today, it's as good a time as any to post some stormraven centric lists

HQ
Reclusiarch

Librarian
Shield
Unleash rage

Honour guard
jump packs
melta x 3

Troops

Assault Squad
Plus 5 guys
2xflamer
Lightning claw

Assault Squad
Plus 5 guys
2x melta
Thunder hamer

Elite

Sang priest x 2
Lightning claw

Furioso
Librarian upgrade

Furioso
H. flamer
Magna grapple

Fast attack

Baal pred x 2

Heavy

Stormraven x 2
twin linked multi melta
Extra armor

So I figure, keep the stormravens in reserve, outflank the baals and deep strike the honour squad. Everything else in the stormravens. Reclusiarch and sang priest with the flamer asssquad. Lbrarian and other sang priest with the melta squad. (it might make sense to change one of his powers to blood lance, but that will require testing)
I know this is a lot of eggs in a basket sort of thing, but that's the only way I can see to field them unless you just field them empty as expensive gunboats.
Any suggestions on the tactics or list are welcome.

Your assault squads can't fit in the stormraven it can only carry 6 JP models. Unless I'm missing something?

I though I saw JPs on the libby and chappy too, doh!

It was about 2am here though so I'm blaming that!

Here's my critique though of the list:

You already know about the eggs and basket situation with the SR but I beleive your way is the only remotely viable way to field them.

However I'm not convinced that standard assault marines are hitty enough to warrant it and feel something else should be transported like Terminators or DC or even Vanguard, in at least one of them anyway.

Also I don't like quite how exposed they are should their ride get popped.

Finally I don't see why you've spent points on LCs for the Sanguinary Priests? Why waste points on CC weapons for models you never want in CC?

I'd replace the Reclusiarch with another Librarian as the Librarians unleash rage power is a lot lot better.

Why lightning claws? You lose the extra attack from the bolt pistol. Bad times.

Priests don't need any upgrades, they're a cheap army booster unit and will be targetted first in close combat.

Also, you don't get the 35 point discount for dropping the packs on the Storm Raven so you're just losing the packs for no benefit :(

So maybe vanguards in the ravens with minimum sized assault squads as troops?
I am constantly debating whether to give the SPs weapons or not. It seems like you might be able to make them a bit more killy with a power weapon of some sort so they aren't just there to get killed in the first round of cc.
I dunno. I haven't played that many games with BA so maybe I'm just doing it wrong? How do you generally field your SPs? attached to the unit or behind it?

Certaintly a more killy unit that way and makes better use of the SR to deliver death.

In regards to the SP it appears you are doing it wrong. Keep him in the unit or he'll be shot dead straight away. However when you disembark ensure he's at the back and surrounded so there is no way for him to make combat and continue for as long as possible. When moving always ensure he is as far back as possible and move to ensure he never actually makes base contact. Obviously if you are charged you've less control on this but keeping him at the back should at least give you control of who he's in base contact with as the hidden fist chouldn't be able to reach him.

Word, I always keep him in the unit. Thanks for the advice. I will try to maneuver the SPs a bit better.

If you wanted you could give the honor guard LC instead, remember they can have meltagun and lc on one model

and i have seen several people suggest leaving the preists in the transport, keeps them safe and extends their bubble range

He has a Priest for each unit anyway so bubble range is irrelevant. Not convinced the Priest is any safer in the armour 12 Fire magnet that is a SR.

A priest with power sword has four S5 I5 WS5 attacks on the charge. Odds are good he will drop three Marines on the charge. Always found it worth it to arm him with the power sword, never been a problem.

So you only want furious charge and FnP for that 1 assault? Don't you find having FnP helps survive retaliation in the following shooting phase and FC would help again in the next combat?

If you can blow past the squad you charge then it is just the same as intentionally not placing the Priest in close combat. For 15 points you have the power sword, think of it as an option for those not faint of heart. There are plenty of units an assault squad with a Priest can beat down in melee if they get the charge off - I have found them superior to units like Plague Marines, Berserkers and lots of daemon units assuming they charge. BA have access to other stronger units in assault to tackle death stars. I'll gladly swing the power sword versus the more run of the mill units. Two to three extra wounds can be huge in an assault.

Yes you can beat those units with a charge the 1-1.33 wounds the Priest will cause with a power sword won't really make a huge difference. But you'l not annihilate those squads in 1 round and if your opponent has a clue he'll keep everyone that can attack the SP alive and take his casualties from elsewhere. Then splat Priest dies, he loses combat and then proceeds to give you assault squad bolter death because they've no longer got FnP to protect and FC to help swing a combat in their favour.
