Hello all,

Not sure where else to put this, but this seems to fall in this forum best. Butanyways...

If you can buy a jump pack for your HQ, why can't you for the honor/command squad?

Never did understand that. I thought "I wanna get a relic blade/SS captain on bike!!! With Company command squad w/ relic blade/ SS/ bikes! Oh wait... No relic blades..."
"Oh well, I'll take an honour guard biker squad for my chapter master! Oh wait...No bikes..."
You could always take vanguard veterans. I have a 700-point 10 man squad of 'em. Overkill.

You can't buy Jumppacks for them, because then you'd be Blood Angels.

Simple as that.

A draw back to playing Vanilla Marines, but why not put them with a Vanguard Squad like previously stated or with an Assault Squad with Jump Packs?

I want you to know that every time I fart under the covers... (Frrp!)

A Vanguard squad would be useless though, if an ID joins them, they can't do a Heroic Intervention, which means it's a waste of points to be paying for them anyway...

Problem solved:
Because you can get Vanguard squads instead.
Simples.

But the OP is looking for a Command Squad/Power Unit to attach his Jump Pack HQ to. Vanguard (while expensive) are the only ones in the Vanilla codex able to be kitted out with Power weapons + SS to be able to survive with the HQ choice and have Jump Packs. This makes them hard to kill, fast and inline with what the OP was looking for, the only draw is yeah you lose intervene and it's expensive, but it's one hell of a hard punching unit.

What squad would last longer then a Vanguard squad with jump packs that you would want to attach your Jump Pack HQ choice to in the Vanilla codex?

I wouldn't want to attach anything to a Jump Pack HQ because if I was playing a Jump Pack HQ then I'd be Blood Angels, and not trying to get an army that isn't made to fight that way, to fight that way.

Here is the thing: this isn't about "Blood Angels Wannabes". This is about versatility.

While the Vet Squad is a good idea and one I was exploring, I do lose points for HI efficiency wise, and I don't get some of the option I get for a honor/command squad.

I like using my HQ for fast intervening unit support as needed, at least this was a task I used them for in 3rd Edition. I like combos with my HQ choices, (For example the Chaplain/lighting claw combo) In this case it is to detract those that would assault vehicle or key unit. Currently, I have him attached to a plain Jane Assault squad, it can be a bit lacking.

Thank you for exploring the topic with me.

Ted
