I know this has probably been covered but i looked through five pages and cant find it on the gw website and i have a tournament at 5 this evening so i need to know quick. does the regimental advisor have to be on the table to give you +1 to reserves rolls?

By regimental advisor affecting reserve rolls do you mean the 'officer of the fleet', if so then yes he would have to be present on the board to use his special rule, it doesnt add +1 to your rolls but minus's 1 from your opponents reserve rolls, so on turn 2 instead of a 4+ he/she would need 5+ instead..

I think he meant the Astropath. And to answer the question, I don't know. Don't have my codex with me. Sorry.

Well, he has to be alive, but that doesn't necessarily mean he has to be on the board. I'd argue it that way if I were you, but YMMV.

The Hive Tyrants Hive Commander ability works when it is off the board because the rule says "alive" so depending on how the rule is worded, you will get the +1 if he is off the table.

the RAW answer is: while he is alive his power works.
However who knows if GW will decide another way. They flip flop something chronic on this.

Yeah Astropath does add +1 to your reserve rolls but same applies that he would have to be on the board to use this rule, even if you got him on from reserve first before any other reserve you would not be able to use his special rule until your following turn so probs best to start with him as he should atleast be able to survive the first few turns and get your units on easily enough..
Atleast thats how i'd interpret it..

While in Reserves, is he dead or alive? IMO, yes, you get the +1. But the best person to ask is the TO.......

Userarm - given that they ruled that the Logan High King rule, which has the same "while alive" requirement, can be used while off the board (specifically when drop podding in) the same should be said of IG.
If you have not been kiulled, you are alive - surely?

I would argue that yes, reserve rolls can be affected by either Astropath or OotF, as long a they are neither dead nor run off the table. The Codex does say 'alive' and precedent seems to be that your model counts as alive even if it's in reserve.
But if your opponent disputes this, call the TO. There's no official rules either way...only some precedents.

Ohh i never considered the Logan High King rule and if GW did rule it as allowed then yes you would be right and be able to use the special rules from reserve to add +1 to your reserve rolls, i'll need to inform a fellow IG player as we always use any model has to be on the board to use their rules so this should be good for him, to be fair all the times i've played against his IG he has never brought up the wording of the rule before and i've never heard the 'while alive' part until now, my cousin shall be very grateful..

Be sure and ask the TO, as he might have a different take on the whole thing.

The rule is "alive" units in reserve are "alive" and therefore the ability can be used even if the unit is off the board. Automatically Appended Next Post: jdjamesdean@mail.com wrote:Was looking for the Faq ... thought they had to be on the table ... not in reserves

To be fair, there is an FAQ that used to say no. the INAT. Thay changed it in v4.0, IIRC................

To be fair, I don't recognize INAT FAQs as legitimate. I only use FAQs put out by the company that created and published the original rule set and codices (I believe this is the point you make in your sig ). Luckily though our FLGS has an extremely competent TO, who is also in charge of the 40k league, so rules questions not covered by the GW FAQ are easily and fairly dealt with. I understand some stores/groups are not as lucky so they have to rely on 3rd party FAQs.
