I got inspired a few nights ago and started carving foam Vendettas. I got about 6 designs hammered out before I ran out of inspiration.
Other than the cockpits and canopies, I dunno what to do to make them look better. I was thinking of cutting strips of plasticard to edge the foam, using a hot nail to add rivets to the plasticard.
The foam itself is going to be sealed with a glue and water mix, then primed and painted.
The lascannons are place holders till these come in from Shapeways.
It's a start. I'm hoping to get inspired again soon to finish them up.

Honestly you can only get so far with foam. Adding details will make them look a bit better, but there are soooo many details that they lack.

A good alternative is running around your garage holding them up and shouting pew pew pew. It's probably what I'd do.

Airbrush or really weather them to hide the ''flatness'' of the build. It makes it look a little more realistic, but hey, not a bad start.

I lol'd. For foam as been mentioned not gonna get much more from it outside of gluing bits from other IG stuff to them and then it would just look like that. It would take alot of plasticard work to to get the details you would need. If you are just using them as proxies I think the least amount of work would be best.

You can go pretty far with some good plate armor designs and two layers of thin plasticard. Just glue the pieces together like armor joints, make some rivits and the such. The main area that might give you problems are the engines, since there's no real good cheap alternatives in the GW lineup and the quality of toystore ships might not be that good. Weapons you can borrow from IG weapon squads.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
