Well, now that I have your attention *snigger* check out this Warlord I painted over the course of just about six hours...

I wasn't lying totally: I do intend to enter him into GirlPainting's miniature competition with some of my Dark Angel stuff and I painted him especially for it: I'm just evil enough to try pull you all in with a fake title, just like many a YouTube vlogger...

I'll point out now that since I'm at uni my wonderful sister and her HD camera weren't available, so take this as evidence of how much a mobile phone without proper lighting can bugger up pictures of minis.

Without further ado:

Rather irritating that his deep-red cloth came out pink...

What y'all think?

1:
I first sprayed the model white, I painted the fur with a 50/50 mix of Chaos Black with Shadow Grey, painted the armour and the scrolls Dark Flesh and the skin Tallarn Flesh. I painted the metal with boltgun metal, the skull bubonic yellow, I applied slightly watered down scab red and scorched brown onto the cloth and wood, allowing the white undercoat to do some shading for me.

2: I painted the armour shining gold leaving dark flesh showing in crevices. The metal areas and the fur all received a black wash and the flesh was washed with Ogryn Flesh. The High Elf scalp was painted with bestial brown. The leather straps were painted snakebite leather and the green parts were painted with watered down Dark Angels green. The skull received a nice flat coat of Desert Yellow. The flesh had a 50/50 layer of Tallarn Flesh and Elf Flesh applied, leaving the wash showing in the recesses. The eyes were also painted blood red and little orange (I forget which orange) dots were added. The scrolls received some desert yellow, leaving dark flesh showing on the sides and on the underneath of folds. The rubble was painted Dheneb Stone and Blood Red highlights were applied to the cloth. The armour was washed with Ogryn Flesh.

3. The armour and metal all received a rough highlight of Mithril Silver which I made look inconsistent to give a scratchy sort of effect. High Elf Flesh and Bleached Bone were applied as facial highlights and the teeth were painted Bleached Bone too. The rubble was painted white on top and the crystal was painted with watered down Enchanted Blue. The scalp was highlighted with Bleached Bone, Shining Gold was applied to the middle of the Skaven symbol and Bleached Bone was blended onto the scrolls. Any pouches were painted lightly with vermin brown.

I think that's about it...

Could use a bit of highlighting on the flesh, it looks kinda flat atm.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Looks great, I like it
Btw is it a wip or a finished mini? Add something to the scrolls they look a lite bit boring imo

There are highlights on the face but it did just hit me that I only used Elf Flesh, which might not stand out as well as Bleached Bone.

I was going to add text to the scrolls, but I need a Skaven Codex to nick the runes out of, as I'd want it to look "fluffy" rather than do my standard Purity Seal scribbles.

@Thamor do tell me when you put your finger on it

I just edited the post to show my painting steps... the only inaccuracy is that I say I used bleached bone on the face, which I will do since MechaEmperor thinks it looks flat.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In honesty, if I were to do this again, I wouldn't use a white undercoat... It can make a model look really patchy which I feel this one does.

They're not always noticeable but I find you get a lot of small white spots or areas where the shading is a bit iffy.

But the reason I sprayed my Skaven white was because all the non-hero units are going to get Quick Shade'd to save time.

I'll then learn how to play Fantasy with them and hopefully put them on e-bay once I pick an army I like.

Well, judging from the photographs (they're pretty poor), I doubt this will be winning any GDs any time soon. It's not poorly painted--it's definetly good tabletop quality, but it's not going to come close to placing in a GD.

Just keep practicing, and maybe you might get there one day. But it's not going to happen now.

Good but unspectacular.

What I mean by that is that this is a very nicely painted model but theres none of the amazing stuff that wins and does really well at the golden demons.

2000pts of beasty boys
1000pt rat pack - Clan Cozen
1000pt Savage Waagh

One immediate thing that pops out as something missing , is the darker areas , both in crevices and between the folds .

May it be between the armor plating , the clothing / drape's folds etc etc .

Right now it almost looks like basic color over white undercoat + some thin devlan mud.

Hrm, how would you have done that?

I started with scab red and washed over that with Ogryn Flesh on the cloth... normally that'd suffice on a black undercoat but should I have started with something even darker like Dark Flesh?

As for the armour, like I said it was started with Dark Flesh and that is visible on edges/in recesses... should I apply a heavier wash or something?
