Here's the scenario: a Dark Eldar unit fires at a Grot Artillery Unit (GAU), and this artillery unit is completely screened behind a larger unit of Meat-Shield Grots (MSG); the Dark Eldar player scores 9 hits, of which, due to randomization, six fall upon the Zzap Guns; of those six hits, two either glance or penetrate said Zzap Guns, destroying the guns per the rules.
Question: may the Zzap Guns roll a cover save?
Argument One (my opponent): NO, because the Meat-Shield Grots (MSG) are too short, they do not cover 50% of the Zzap Guns, which count as vehicles.
Argument Two (mine): YES, because the Grot Artillery Unit is composed of many units -- 12 crewmen, 1 Runtherd, 1 Big Mek, 3 ZZap Guns, for a total of 17 models -- and that even if the meat shield grots (MSG) do not cover the vehicles (i.e., the Zzap Guns) by 50%, the Meat-Shield Grots do cover ALL of the remaining models, which is 82% of the Grot Artillery Unit.
Alright, I'm off to work. I'm looking forward to your responses.
