Awesome Autarch

So, some friends and I just played in an RTT at black diamond games in Concord, CA. First of all, let me say that that store is truly the nicest gaming store I have ever been in. Big, clean, organized, stocked to the gills with great gamer merchandise, lots of gaming tables, friendly staff, really a gem of a store, I highly recommend it. The second saturday of every month they have a 40K RTT.
Anyway, onto the event. GREAT TOURNAMENT FORMAT! 1850, missions right out of the book with bonus points. Strictly battle points. Great, simple and fun way to run a tournament.
I brought a pretty mild IG list, which I now regret! Next month I am bringing a hammer. This was also my first game since I moved up north so I was really rusty and it showed.
My list:
HQ:
CCS: Camo, L.Cannon, Astropath
Inquisitor Lord: Mystics x 3, Hood, Tarrot
Elites:
Callidus
Marbo
Troops:
PCS: Flamer x 4, Chimera
Infantry Squad x 2: Commissar, A.Cannon x 2, Flamer
Vets: Chimera, M.Gun x 3
Vets: Chimera, M.Gun x 3
SWS: Flamer x 3
Fast:
Vendetta
Hellhound
Hellhound
Heavy:
Russ: H.Bolter x 3
Demolisher: H.H.Flamer, H.Bolter x 2
Bassie
It is a bit of a wacky list, with the Callidus and Marbo jumping around being a pain in the ass, but a fun list. It uses orders and lots of the fun stuff. Not the most competitive army but usually holds its own against most tournament lists I have taken it against. I was so rusty though that I forgot to use scouts on my Vendetta and the Callidus' word in your ear every game! Haha, I was very out of practice.
Round one: Pitched Battle, Annihilation.
Opponent: Chaos
HQ:
Nurgle Prince: Wings, Warp Time
Troops:
CSM: 20 strong, MoN, Champ, Fist, L.Cannon
PM: 10 strong, Champ, Fist, Rhino, P.Gun x 2
PM: 10 strong, Champ, Fist, Rhino, Flamer x 2
Lesser Demons x 10
Lesser Demons x 10
Heavy:
Oblit
Oblit
Predator: Auto Cannon, L.Cannon sponsons
So, a weird list, but really not bad for KPs and pitched battle. I had 17 KP's, he had 12 and a lot of his were really hard to get. He played smart, taking out my easy KP's early and I made a few mistakes throwing Marbo and the Callidus into overly vulnerable situations. I took out his easy KP's but for the life of me I could not wipe out his PM squads and a Rhino. My opponent had crazy dice, he would miss about 90% of his shots, but anything that actually did hit was a kill and he made about 80% of his saves. I just couldn't do damage. I put about 25 wounds on his demon prince and he only failed 2 saves. In the end, I just couldn't do the damage I needed and he beat me by 3 KP's. I think in pitched battle or DoW I would have smoked his very weird list, but hey, half a tournament is match ups and he played a good game. So, not a good start to the tournament for me!
Game 2: Spearhead, capture and control.
Opponent: Tau
HQ:
Shas'O: CIB, TLP, TL
Bodyguard 3: Fusion Guns, TL
Elite:
Crisis Suits x 3: TLMP, TA
Troops:
Firewarriors x 6: Shas'el, bonking knife, marker light, marker light drone x 2
Firewarriors x 6: Shas'el, bonking knife, marker light, marker light drone x 2
Fast:
Vespids 10: Stingwing
Vepids x 10: Stingwing
Heavy:
Skyray: SMS
Skyray: SMS
Broadsides x 3: TL, TA, shield Drone x 2
So, not a very competitive list. This game was pretty much over before it started. My opponent had two small troops units without transports which the hellhounds roasted within two turns and the game was done. The Callidus wiped out both squads of Vespids with ease and I ended up with both objectives. Great guy though, very fun to play and he gave it his best go, playing well but his list just wasn't going to cut it and hi dice were not kind. In two rounds of firing broadsides he failed to get a single damage result with 6 shots. The one thing I must say though, is that the skyrays were surprisingly good. I always wrote them off as awful but they were doing a lot of damage to my predominantly AV12 army, I was impressed. I till think 9 broadsides is the way to go with competitive Tau, but skyrays are not bad.
Game 3: Dawn of War, Seize ground
Opponent: Demons
HQ:
Fateweaver
Bloodthirster
Elites:
Bloodcrushers x 6: Musician, Icon, Fury
Bloodcrushers x 6: Musician, Icon, Fury
Fiends x 6: Might
Troops:
Plague Bearers x 7
Plague Bearers x 7
Plague Bearers x 7
Heavy:
Demon Prince: Wings, MoN, Cloud
A nasty fatecrusher list. I have played against lists like this before and knew that my best bet was to just run like the wind and go for a last turn objective crash. Had I gotten first turn I would have stood and fought, but with DoW he deep struck into my deployment zone with all of his powerful units before I was even on the board, I would have stood no chance. So it was off to the races with my dancing away taking pot shots desperately trying to kill his scoring units and keep mine alive before end game. I killed all but one scoring unit and on turn 5 crashed the objectives. It went to 6 but he failed to destroy my contesting units and we tied. Highlights: Marbo killing a squad of PB's by himelf, a squad of vets keeping fateweaver locked in combat for 3 turns, Callidus being a boss and taking out a unit of PB's, Wounding Fateweaver, helping kill Bloodthrister and being a general badass. Best moment: Bloodthirster being killed in HtH by an Imperial Guardsman. Bayonet to the eye, son!
So I ended the tournament 1-1-1, definitely not my best showing but I had a great time and met some cool new people. It's really good to know that there is a fun, highly competitive crowd of gamers up here that are cool guys and good comp. Mot of the armies at the event were really tough, mine was definitely one of the weaker lists so next time I am bringing some heat. I am definitely looking forward to the next event in December. It was good to knock the rust off and get some games in after a few months of not playing.
Congrats to ChritianA who came with me and played the top table round 3 but lost and ended up tied for third, and to Steve who also came with us (both old CCMG club-mates!) and got Second. Nice one!
The results were:
1st: Horde/Battlewagon Orks (yeah, boy do those Orks suck, funny how they consistently place well)
2nd: Bjorn Wolves
3rd: AV12 spam leafblower IG
