hey all! I've been playing skirmish games for the past few Saturdays, and loving it.
I'm just starting out my Menoth army, and I'm looking for a diverse skirmish sized force.

We've been doing 3 player matches, and I think our forces are going to be of limited size for a while, so I'd like to field a small force that can react to different threats.
One way I can do that (I think) is with some fairly generic units, and then support solos that can provide diverse boosts as needed.

My army generally looks like this...

pKreoss
Crusader
Castigator
Redeemer
Choir (1 leader, 3 grunts)
Vassal
Eiryss (non epic)

I also have a Repenter and a unit of Exemplar Bastions that are a little pricey to field at this point size.
I can't find any solid info on the Menoth solos, but Rhupert Carvolo (Merc) sounds like a good investment, and I'm eyeing Sam and the Devil Dogs as a merc unit that can take down warjacks, and can screen an area, hindering advance.

What do you all think?

Rhupert is solid for Menoth infantry, especially if you're fielding melee
troops. Another option is Gorman who will be useful as a debuffer. I'm
not sold on Sam MaHorne.

Wracks are a solid investment for 1 point. Extra focus is always welcome.

A lot of your options are limited until you get more infantry on the table.

You need an infantry unit for Rupert, something like Knights Errant work pretty well. If you don't have a unit, Rupert doesn't do anything, he just stands around making himself tough.

Sam and the Dogs aren't terrible, but you have Menoth, there are piles of great infantry available, so unless you have your heart set on Sam I'd just run one of the many good infantry options.

Thanks! I think I should go with Gorman. His large cloak will look good in Menoth White/Red as well.

Zealots are a solid, cheap unit, who have a really strong Unit Attachment.

Rhupert is an excellent solo, but you definitely need some troops for him to work with.

There's a couple of Menoth Jack Solos in the mechanic and Vassal...

He has a vassal already, but he doesn't have a mechanik iirc.

I haven't tried the Menoth mechanik yet.

that he does. A reclaimer is good, but you need infantry for that.

The mechanic is great. He's squishy, but I find he usually lives longer than the choir if he's placed B2B with a second line warjack. Fixing key systems to bring a heavy fully online in the late game can be huge, and his one point investment makes him more worth it to me than the wracks.

He makes the Avatard even more annoying than it already is with the requisite pet Vassal in tow.

Another nice choice is Vilmon, at three points he can be switched with eryiss to change things up.

Oh, duh. How can I forget the Covenant?

People hate the Covenant. Still not sure how much I'd use it for 'jack reliant
forces. I think I'm too much of an infantry-phile.

Oh no themocaw! the Gig is up! He's my friend whose been teaching me how to play, and now he knows the source of my anti-him strategy! Oh well. Moving on.

There is something I hadn't thought about... with pKreoss and 25 point skirmish forces, should I be fielding a 'Jack army? That Crusader does beat a lot of ass, and the redeemer is a nice 16" kill switch (aside from cursed elven stealth!!) but I do have enough light jacks to do a 'jack army.

In that case, the solos I would want are choir, vassal,
mechanik
eiryss (to flank their caster, maybe force them into a vulnerable position)
Gorman, for a little debuffing.

My jacks would be Crusader, Redeemer, and Repenter.
I'm not sure what the point cost is for that... are there any tools to help players make army lists?

I also would like to have an effective 25 point infantry list that utilizes my bastions.
I'm thinking Redeemer, Bastions, eiryss, that bag pipe guy, and an additional infantry, either flameguard (which I understand would be good to own), or the errants, who could effectively shoot through gaps in my line of bastions.
(errants could be supplemented with the seneschal)

Does that sound reasonable? I'm only just getting my feet wet with building some lists.

My personal favorite is iBodger, although that's only for the iPhone OS (and I think Android now). There's also Forward Kommander, although it's not as nice.

the menoth mechanik is the toughest mechanik in the game if you can keep him b2b with a jack, 15def and arm is difficult to hit for many infantry units and it will sometimes force a good amount of commitment to kill a 1 point model.

On a side note, the redeemer should roast those stealthy elves, I had a game against them where my mortar smoked damn near most of their army. Last I knew, you can shoot at a stealther, it just auto misses, which is fine, since my mortars cant hit anything anyway.

Beware the Battle Mages and anyone within Arc Node range of Rahn if you're relying on blasts. They are and he can make things immune to blasts.

Drove the last Menoth player I faced crazy since he was playing a pop and drop pKreoss. Unfortunately I had to summarily execute those dice after the game...

Rahn doesn't make things immune to blast damage, he controls deviation directions. Discordia on the other hand is a different story...

No it doesn't it makes him immune to blast damage, but that's all.

And incidentally, he already has immunity from blast damage.

True. I misremembered that it was a self only spell. He's only hit the table for me twice so far as well and I've not had the need for it since he runs with alot of his fellow BM's.

Immune to Knockdown is still a nice benefit....

Vanquishers are reliable jacks too, for the record. Good melee, and good way to handle infantry. Auto-fire big blast yes please!

For solos, try paladin Vilmon, and for a unit play idrian skirmishers with the UA. they hit harder than any other menoth unit, especially if you went for eKreoss and put sarcosanct and pop a feat for them. drop the crusader if anything first off. eiryss hates being near warjacks, which you have 3. the crusdaer is slow and relatively weak and lack-luster.
