due to lack of funds I find myself unable to buy the new shiny DE codex. oh well im having a friendly game against 5th edition 'vanilla' space marines. we had a houserule for DE so that when they ran you'd roll 2d6 instead of just making everyone fleet, and nobody could enter a building disliking the how you can't kill units in one until you blow it up.
Game:capture and control
deployment: spearhead-table quarters

Dark eldar
HQ:
Archon- poisoned blades, shadowfield, hellmask
retinue-8 Incubi
Elites:
10 Wyches- Wych weapons
troops:
2x20 Warriors- 2 blasters, 2 dark lances
Heavy support:
Talos
Ravager

Space marines
HQ:
Space Captain-bolter, hellfire rounds, artificer armor, automatic grenade launcher
Elites:
5 stern guard veterans and seargent- 2 heavy bolters, 4 storm bolters , melta bombs
troops:
2x9 Space marines and seargent- plasma cannon, melta bombs
Heavy support:
whirlwind
vindicator
dreadnought- assault cannon

deployment: space marines go first
space marines hid their vindicator and whirlwind in the corner. the stern guard was moved close to cover but still pretty open. the rest of his forces was behind terrain/cover.

dark eldar bunched the warriors to close but got one squad sitting in terrain guarding the objective and the other one in the open to draw fire hopefully. the ravager and talos hide behind building in center of the table. wyches were in reserves and archon/incubi were behind objective.

turn 1

space marines: the vindicator and whirlwind send more warriors than I'd like flying in gibblet style(cover saves have failed me). everyone else positions themselves, interestingly the dreadnought runs across the field to hide behind an abondoned building.

DE: I immediatley space out my troops to not have a repeat of those evil large blast weaponry. my ravager and talos stroll out to say hi to the neighbors. the talos manages to almost kill the captain and the ravager immoblizes the vindicator which was the only thing I didn't want to roll.

turn 2

space marines: The captain and his stern guard bravely run away and shoot my talos to pieces. Both plasma cannons fail to hurt my floating cardboard box due to scattering. heavy fire kills a few warriors.

DE: The open warriors run to hide behind the building with the lurking dreadnought. the ravager fires again and destroys the vindicator and its little dog too. the defensive warriors fire its lances and kill a grand total of one marine.

turn 3

space marines: whirlwind kills a warrior. a plasma cannon finally hits the ravager but does nothing to it on a glancing hit the other cannon kills itself in "gets hot!". everyone else makes their saves or doesnt hit period.

dark eldar: Wyches fail their reserves roll. Ravager moves more to the left and destroys the whirlwind. Warriors win the game of peek-a-boo with the dreadnought and keep it from firing its guns.

turn 4

space marines: tired of his guns failing to do anything to the ravager he charges it and manages to get it shaken and stunned. The dreadnought does likewise and due to a botched leadership roll my warriors end up running and screaming like little girls. the captain runs behind the center building to assault next turn.

dark eldar: Wyches come on the field and give my ravager reprieve by assaulting the marines on it and forgetting to add the exra charge attacks really cost me in hurting them. archon/incubi run to the marines but only get halfway there. dark lance/blaster fire half the captain's squad and destroys the dreadnought's assault cannon. LOS keep the splinter rifles from finishing the captain and his single sternguard. unable to rally warriors due to proximity of dreadnought.

turn 5

space marines: captain makes his leadership roll unfortionately and assaults my warriors the pile up makes my objective open. the dreadnought assaults my archon/incubi and makes them run off the board. the one save I need to make and a 2+ inv. fails me .

dark eldar: my fleeing warriors manage to run off the board. the surviving warrior squad finally kills the dreadnought after it makes half my army run off the field. we roll for the game to end and it continues.

turn 6

space marines: wyches manage to roll horrible enough to where they run off the board aswell. you'd think a 4+ inv. save and halving a unit's WS would give you an advantage. the marine squad consolidates and runs towards my objective. I actually make a leadership test and keep my warriors from running off the board too.

dark eldar: nothing to do but fight with warriors. they manage to down the captain but lose a warrior so no checks. the ravager goes flat out and contests the marine's objective
we roll... and it goes for another turn

turn 7

space marines: On a glancing hit he luckily rolls immobilized and destroys my ravager re-claiming his objective. The squad of marines run but don't get anywhere close. nothing happens in close combat.

dark eldar: The warriors FINALLY kill the single sternguard and roll for consolidation... and get a . im litterally an inch from re-claiming my objective and tying the game. we roll to continue the game and it ends.

space marines:1 dark eldar:0

unit of the game: dreadnought
I did the math it took out 495 points of my army mostly from failed leadership tests.
sorry for lack of pictures we forgot to take them.

It was a great game. (I was his opponent.) I'd borrowed my friend's Space Marines so I could try to figure out how to run them so I could give him tips so he wouldn't always lose (he hasn't won a game yet). I have some pics of deployment that I can put up when I set my camera up, but we got caught up in the game, and forgot to take pictures.

Man thats a bummer, never winning a game. But as you play you will play that one person who has no idea and used to be like you. Just help along the way and they'll be having more fun than losing for sure!
Anyways nice battle report poor DE poor poor DE.

Why poor DE? It was Eura's second game, and he did great (only lost by an inch!). And its a different friend that always loses, not eura. Just to avoid confusion in case of later posts.

Your friend has an interesting sternguard setup.

Does he know that his tacticals can take a flamer for free?

How is the sternguard squad interesting? and I knew that I could take flamers in the squad for free, but I didn't see them being as much use as the bolter that they could have instead.
