I will be starting to play Warmachine/Hords. Currently the game store is running Hords. We were told that we could bring in warjacks in hords games.
Can any beasts or other hord units be used in warmachine? The kingdoms look seperate but maybe there were some mercinary units that cn be used in the 2 games. Thanks to all !

Well, each faction has their own beasts and jacks.
The games are compatable in that you can fight each other.

There are some minions or mercs that can work cross game systems...like Wrong Eye and Snap Jaw.
Then there is Magnus who can be used with Skorne in a single faction 2 on 2.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Warmachine is one version of the game. Hordes is another version. Both are compatible.

The question I have, are you talking about the RPG version of the game, or the competitive miniatures version?

What faction are you thinking of playing anyhow?

Welcome to Warmachine/Hordes!

Generally speaking, you can not use models from other factions in your army. If you're playing Trollbloods, you can't have your warlock running a Ironclad from Cygnar. (though, as Sanctjud mentioned, some models can be used in your army that are not of your army, but those rules are specific to those particular models).

Mercenary and Minions state which factions they can be used for, so if you like a particular model, you should check first where it can be used.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

No, I am not talking about the RPG. I am still searching for a faction (or If I even start playing the game.)
I don't want to own a bunch of models that I don't use.(example 40K)
In earlier posts it was established that a warjack force can be used in Hords. Now I want to know if I run (Maybe) Mercenaries. Can they be used in Warmachine. Can big monsters from Hords play aginst warmachine/ warjacks.
I have the quickstart rules and will watch a few games to see what it's all about. Find out if press ganger will allow steamjacks in a hord game/turny. I will have to look at the Mercenaries and what groups they will work with. Is the unit" Gorten Grundback Battlegroup any good for a starter take on all(no kill specific faction list)
thanks

yeah thier a fairly strong very confining option wise tho, rare also if you like to be a one of a kind army at your store.
Madhammer is a artillry specialist, while grundback is more deniel and bord control, both hit like a slege hammer, and you gotta love those bunny jacks.

Hope is a moment now long Past.

So really, if you want warjacks, you can choose one faction and go with it. Don't buy from mulitple different factions because for the most part you are not allowed to mix and match. There are a few exceptions with the mercanary armies, but in my experience, you buy solo's mercs to augment your faction, but don't start out with buying them until you know your faction. Or if you want Mercs as an army, you'll find that they are fairly limited to one or two warcasters and certain jacks only. Not say Merc's are bad, they are nearly as competative as the rest of the factions in their own right. These days you go with one army that best fits your style and just do it.
I started with Menoth, and later bought Legion of Everblight, turns out I love Legion so much more than Menoth, but its easier to play some of the assassination games with Menoth vs Legion. And Legion, overall I think just plays better, everything is deadly and isn't too reliant on other units.

Warmachine: (each faction has infantry, solo's and warjacks) however, only a few mercanaries (mostly solo's and units, and never warjacks (this is still true as far as I can tell) will work for factions other than there own.
Khador, the russians, big heavy warjacks with lots of wounds, and some of the best overall infantry in the game.
Protectorate of Menoth, the denial faction, they'll stop you in your tracks, and play with you at arms length. Good Variety of Jacks. Mostly squishy infantry with big effects, usually undercosted because of how easy they can be to kiill.
Cygnar, really big on lighting, long gunners, shooting jacks, with work pretty good warcasters too, but bigger learning curve.
Retribution, new faction, angry elves, big on magic in their units, all jacks have forcefields, I dont' know much else, I've played against them but, aren't sure what else they do.
Cryx... OMG... I hate them, they play with the dead, they have cheap infantry, that are either very good and hard to kill or very good and very squishy, they are a crazy fast moving arc noding magic weilding faction. With so many tricks, a magician will be left dumbfounded. Also a good faction.
Mercenaries (pretty diverse, but not a lot of cross over, except solo's)
Pirates (same as above)

Hordes: (includes infantry, solo's and warbeasts) there are some minions (hordes mercenaries) that will work for some hordes factions, but not all)
Circle of Orboros - has dogs, wolves, werewolves, contructs, and uses a lot of teleporation tricks, plus its fast.
Legion of Everblight, fastest of all factions, glass hammer. Winged Dragons and Tainted Elves... my faction.
Trolls, syngergy supreme, lots of interacting units, tough, hard to kill stuff.
Skorne, weapon master faction, with enough work you can get one model to be buffed up to be a guided missile. So watch out! Otherwise these guys are BDS&M's who torture elephants and some of the thickest armored warbeasts in the game.

Mercs have a higher learning curve to play IMO. There is the "merc tax" that they have to deal with and frankly alot of the choices aren't as good as what they are in the faction books. They can win, don't get me wrong, but it's harder to get there than if you pick one of the main factions as a new player. You'll also be pretty limited on options as far as different units go.

Not saying don't do it, just things to be aware of.

Agreed: Starting Warmachine with Mercs is like doing motorcross with a BMX bike. Yeah, you can do it, but it's not easy.

If you like the dwarves (Rhulic), you can use Brun and Lug in the Searforge contract (the dwarf with the bear). That's some Hordes in your Warmachine.

Thanks All. Sazzlefrats you are the Man. I think it's great. The Dakka posters sum up all the factions and put them in english we can understand. There are several people who covered Warmachine and Hords. Great Job !!
I see a lot of the gamers have lots of extra models.
I was playing 40K, I have enough extra models.

I save all the summary info and I will make a choice based on that and what I ask from dakka. The store uses 15 points, I will find what local game cons are using. From that I would like to make 1 force, with little spares as possiable. Yea right.
We have a Druid and ogar player, I will choose another hord factions. My KISS army. Keep it simple stupid.
