This weekend Whembly and I attended a 2000pt team tournament hosted at a local flgs to benefit a local children’s hospital. This is my first battle report and list may not be exact.

Overall Strategy

This was our first team tournament and we had both thought that at 1000 pts a piece that the KISS rule would apply to army builds. Strategy was for FD to take out all any AV14 and ID shots at HQ and rest of elder army used for light vehicles and distractions. The Ork army was there to apply power klaws , burnas and def rollas.
A total of 18 players making it nine teams attendance. All the tables were building heavy with a lot of LoS terrain.

Game 1 vs Necrons and Nids

Round 1
Mission: Annihilation with bonus points
Deployment: Pitched battle

First battle had us facing a pair of young brothers with father in support. We lost the roll for deployment and they agreed to deploy first. At this time Whembly and I had a side bar conversation and we agreed not to pull punches and phase out the necrons and then deal with the bugs.
-Team Necron/Nids deploys across the entire board. The right side was bugs and the left side was crons. Nothing held in reserves
-Orkdar deploys all in the left corner with BWs out in front and FD WS on exposed left side. All Ork vehicles getting KFF and rest for eldar behind wagons.
-Orkdar Fails to seize initiative

Turn 1

Nids:
Bugs move towards left corner and crons walk forward towards our line. Scarabs and Wraiths turbo forward. Was a little bit a shooting but destroyers fail to pen WS and Nids fail to hit BW.

Orkdar:
FS Dooms wraiths. Battle Wagon full of boyz moves twelve inches forward towards scarab swarm and boyz disembark to dive into the swarm. FD WS moves forward and disembarks in front of wraiths. Remaining burna wagon and truck move forward towards necron lines. FD manage to kill one wratih , while rest of shooting focuses on the two squads of necron warriors. Eldar shooting manages to take down 8 necron warriors. 4 from each squad.
Orks wipe out scarab swarms and consolidate towards empty battle wagon

Turn 2:

Nids+Cron:
WWBB roll sees 4 necron warriors stand back up. Tyranids move closer but still at least one turn before first wave of swarm can assault. Destroyers move to better position and the necron warriors move forward toward the oncoming ork vehicles.
The tyranid weapons fail to hit or are negated by KFF. Destroyers destroy the full FD WS. 2 FD die from the blast but pass pinning and ld. One squad of 10 Warriors blasts the 19 orks who had disembarked to kill the swarm. 11 ork boyz die but pass ld
Wraiths charge the WS and FD that opened on them last turn. Wraiths fail to hit WS and kill one FD. FD kill one wraith and they stay in combat

Orkdar
Farseer Dooms necron warriors
Both trucks full of boys move towards the one squad of warriors that blasted the boys last turn and disembark to take klaw to metal heads. Reduced ork squad jumps into wagon for cover (no sense in leaving a reduced squad out to be shot)Burna wagon moves towards other squad of necron warriors with the lord. Remaining Eldar vehicles move for better shots on necron warrior squad with lord.
Eldar and Ork shooting sees 9 more necron warriors fall, some from each squad. Ork boyz from a truck assault 6 warriors and after the dust settles there are a few dead orks but the necrons fall and force a phase out before they can roll a WWBB.

TURN 3:

NIDS
This was the last turn and the Nid HQ does nothing in shooting phase , gants fire at FD in cover killing two but LD passed. Genestealers charge the burna wagon destroy it kills a few burnas, ripper swarm and a few genestealers in the blast. Burnas pass LD.

Eldar Shooting sees genestealers squad wiped, and Carnifex with 2 wounds. Ork Shooting sees Hive Tyrant with one wound , Squad of gants and ripper swarm gone to burnas templates. Time called and game ends.

**Victory Orkdar 10pts for win and 5 pts bonus**

We had a short talk with the kids we played and offered them some advice for the next two games. Necrons are a tough army field to begin with but are an outright handicap to the team when both squads are deployed out in the open on turn 1. We suggested they keep them in cover and keep one squad in reserve so that the wraiths, scarabs and destroyers can stay on the board as long as they can to support the nids. They were both very young and seemed to be enjoying the game even though very brief. I did hea that the crons did stay on the table the next game.

Again we lost the roll for first and we deploy second. The good news is they have a lot of S10 blast templates .The bad news is they have 4 St 10 blast templates shots a turn if we get out of our vehicles.

Deployments

Spearhead deployment so the command squad in the razorback deploys right at 12 inches from center on our left. Vindicator is right behind rhino giving the vehicle cover. Assault A marines remain in reserve Chimeras line up on the right side of their deployment zone creating a flank of armour in the middle of the table. Manticore and Medsua set up in back left of their zone behind some buildings blocking all LoS.

We deploy the wagon with the boys facing middle of table and rest of Ork vehicles to the front of our table quarter. KFF covering all ork vehicles. Eldar deploy one DA WS in the bottom left while both FD WS are center and right of the deployment zone giving cover to the side of a BW. Farseer and DA WS deploy bottom right of our table quarter. WW are outflanking
Scouts infiltrate 18 inched in top left corner with hopes for taking heavy bolter to an ork truks. Storm troopers deploy bottom right in a building and are of no risk because weapon is only S3.

Orkdar fails to seize initiative again

Turn 1:

Guard/FT

Razorback moves to center and vindicator follows. Chimeras move a little to the left one closet to us pops smoke.
Vindicator, Razorback ,Medsua and Manticore all fire at Ork and Eldar vehicles. Assault canons fail to pen DA + Farseer WS, Vindicator fails to hit same target . The marine scout squad fires at a truk and hits, but KFF saves. Guard fails to damage ork vehicles either to miss or KFF.
No CC for Guard/FT

Farseer has nobody to doom, scouts too far away and not going to shoot at storm troopers in cover.
One Ork truk moves twelve inches towards scouts in top left corner and boys pile out.( Scouts were deployed right at 18 inches away per infiltrate rules to get HB and bolters in range. Player should have done 22 or 23 to get two rounds of shooting before charge.)Burna wagons move towards chimeras while truk stays behind other wagon moving towards razorback. One FD WS moves 12 in front of Chimera and drops FD while the other Flat outs across the middle of the table towards the guard heavys. Both DA WS move back away for SL firing position

Eldar shooting sees FD shooting at chimera and getting shaken + weapon destroyed (HF)

Boyz charge scouts take and take a couple losses but win combat. Scouts fail leadership but orks fail sweeping advance. Scouts run 5 inches. Gives just what was needed to drop a couple models off the table. Ork boyz consolidate 1 inch and spread out for some s10 template love the next turn.

Turn 2

Guard/FT

No reserves Assault squad does not come in.

Shaken Chimera Moves towards ork truk and troops disembark to fire plasma. One Chimera moves up to disembarked FDs to give them heavy flamer. Third chimera moves towards disembarked truk boys that are in upper left corner. Marine Razorback moves to get rear shot at flat out FD WS. Vindicator moves back a little towards upper right corner.

Chimera roasts fire dragon squad, Plasma squad takes one wound from gets hot, but wrecks truk ramshackle rolls and truk blows up. Formally Truk boyz pass pinning but lose as few models . I believe the vindicator then erases them from the board. Manticore fires at other truk boys and rolls off the table. Medusa fires at burna wagon (wagon fails KFF)and gets shaken which + AP1 and + 1 Open topped to weapons destroys results removing big shoota. Razorback hits flat out FD WS getting weapon destroyed result.
At this time we have swept some scouts but lost a truk, boyz and a squad of FD. Other side is feeling pretty good.

Then came the def rollas!!!!

With the burna wagon there were one chimera in line for a def rolla and for the normal boys there was plasma squad and disembarked from the back of a chimera. Both wagons declared rams and wrecked/destroyed the vehicles in the movement phase. The plasma squad was in between the chimera and the wagon and was tank shocked in the process. 2 Chimeras and 1 squad to the def rollas. Last truk picks up boys and moves towards right hand side of table. FD WS moves 12 inches between the two guard heavies and drops FD. Remaing WS move for position

Eldar shooting sees the medusa/griffon destroyed, vindicator shaken, razorback weapon destroyed

No CC this turn.

Turn 3

Assault Marines come in and land 6 inches off side of boyz wagon. Seth and Company disembark and move to side of wagon. Chimera Moves 6 inches towards burna wagon and so does guard unit now on foot from wrecked chimera.
Guard/FT Shooting does nothing .. A couple shots hit burna wagon but KFF saves.
Seth and Squad assault boyz wagon and the wreck wagon. 18 boyz are now sitting next to 10 assault marines who cannot assault this turn because of deep striking. Whembly begins to count his dice out with a grin for our CC round.

Doom on Gabriel

Burna Wagon rams last Chimera wrecking it. FD move on foot in 6 range of back of vindicator or medusa Eldar move to get better shots at Gabriel Seth.

Ork Shooting sees a few assault marines die. Player takes wounds on flamers and other bolt pistol troopers . FD wreck vindicator. Two or three of the command troops die to Eldar shooting.

CC Wagon Boyz assault marines take half as losses but wipe the squad and consolidate only a couple inches.

Turn 4

Guard/FT

At this point Guard / FT players have Gabriel Seth and I think 2 command squad marines. A squad of stomrtroopers hiding (All game) in a building and two squads off troopers on foot about to be def rolla’d

Troopers try to shoot at front of burna wagon fails or KFF saves. Manticore fires last missile at last truk and misses.

CC

Gabriel Seth and Company assault wagon boys loose two but Gabriel win combat and gets sweeping advance. Consolidate towards middle of table.
The Gabriel Seth attack puzzles me because he used a ability to get as many attacks as orks in base contact. He was surrounded but only gave him 5 attacks that were high strength but still gave saves. How many attacks should he get on the charge? Five auto hits must be better.

Three things about this game. Love def rollas on my side. KFF is a steal and I felt sorry for the other side firing templates at vehicles. I Run fire prisms and a night spinner at 2000pts and I have penned LR with both but when all you need is a 2 1/2 inch scatter to miss alot vehicles at full strength it can become painfull. Add KFF and or energy fields and they become less usefull when on average they will miss (7 average roll and BS 3 or 4 with 3 inch scatter). Great when I hit or roll low, but can be disappointing.

Curb stomping in the Eye of Terror!

Deff rolla + KFF were definately the MVP of this game.

The reason why I think the deffrolla were so effective was that they seemed to be more concerned with the Fire Dragons than my orks. (worked to my advantage! )

Gabriel = WTFPWN'ed the orks! Dude hits hard...

Eldar/Wolves win roll and deploy first

Kudos to both Kevin and Tim they gave us a very good game. And the space wolves were painted very well in a centurion theme with calvary mounted on horses. This was the top table in round three and a clear victory would have seen us win.

Eldar/Wolf deployment

Eldar/Wolf team mixes eldar and marine vehicles to create overlapping field s of fire. Prism and Predator to our left ,Rhinos in middle with a WS on both flanks and FP to our right with wolf lords cavalry positioned in front of the skimmer. Objective marker is dead center.

We deploy heavy on the right side of the table to deal with thunderwolf calvary and to reduce possible targets for the predator and FP on the top left of the table. They will have to move just to get in range for one vehicle so first turn will not hurt so bad. Our normal deployment wagons in front KFF all orks vehicls and WS to provide cover on right flank. WW will outflank.

Orkdar fail to seize the initiative.

I will just go over the highlights of the next turns

Thunderwolves get crispy from burna wagon , rhino and grey hunters get def rolla. Full squad of ten grey hunters break and run from tank shock. Middle of table turns into a junk yard with wrecked vehicles. One truk full of boyz on top of the pile and one WS (theirs) about five inches away. With marines routed we could have had them in another turn but game was called and ends a tie.

***Orkdar 5 pts for tie and end up fourth***

The WS that tied for them got def rolla'd and dodged twice.. Maybe could have move my WS better to claim objective but was a very tight fit around all the wrecks and terrain which was building we decalared impassible at beginnig of game to simplify movment. The funny thing is they got second and they left the WS behind on the table when they left. We left it with the FLGS and let them know it was from Tim and Kevin.
