So where are the best places to game in Baltimore area. I'm thinking we may try to move somewhere in the Laurel Area. Also any advice for best to live around Balty..I have two kids 8 and 4 years old.

GAHHHHH!!!! I'm down in Bel Air. I have to drive 30 minutes just to whitemarsh to get a game in. And as places to play in Baltimore I wouldn't know. you looking for a FLGS or a club?

Grog,

I don't know much about the Laurel area, but Games 'n Stuff in Glen Burnie is a pretty sizable FLGS in Anne Arundel county, so that might be worth looking at.

Like LunarGhost, I'm up in Harford County and we've been without a FLGS since March of this year when Renaissance Games closed up. For us, there's a GW in White Marsh or Collector's Corner in Parkville has been trying to build up his gamer community at the store.

Both of you may want to join the Heroes Guild of Maryland if you're looking for more localized play.

Good luck with the move and if you get a location finalized, let us know.

I'm in Columbia, if you're in Laurel the Columbia GW will be the closest gaming store to you. Columbia and Ellicott City (slightly cheaper) are really nice places to live, Laurel also can have some good areas. Prices are really low compared to what they should be, although Columbia is still rather expensive.

DreamWizards is a trek, just north of D.C. and crazy traffic, but it's an independent store if you like non-GW games.

I usually game at the Columbia GW, or the GW in Arundel Mills Mall. The Columbia one has a much more mature crowd, however. There's also going to be a 40k escalation league run there (again with a more mature crowd) starting in January! We're just finishing up a fantasy one where we had 18 people participate, most of which were pretty regular about it

So it's a great spot to game, imho... certain nights are better than others, obviously, and there's more kids around in the summer. But now's a pretty good time

Hell, my inlaws live in laurel. I drive to Dreamwizards, but that's because it's a good store and I enjoy the people there.

Haven't done the GW in Columbia, but there's a lot of good news from that area.

Well I'll be staying in Laurel for a bit, and commuting to Baltimore. As far as gaming goes, my interests include more than just 40k. So board gaming, other miniature systems and possibly some d&d.(haven't played d&d in years)

Showcase Comics and Games in Media, PA, is probably only an hour drive for you, Portugal Jones. I highly reommend them if you've got a Saturday free, Mike (the store and bunker owner) runs some awesome events! And is a great guy

That certainly sounds good, but I was also hoping that there might be some local players or stores because it's nice when the good things in life are close to home.

The White Marsh Gw isn't bad, but not an ideal place to find a pick up game, and since I don't really know any gamers in the area yet, prearranging one has been hard too. Maybe if I'd trited getting to the .comattle .comunker a little sooner...

I recommend the White Marsh store, personally. 2 Reasons:

1. The manager there is one of the dudes that got me into the game back when he worked at the Glen Burnie store. Good dude, great painter and knows his stuff. Its not the biggest shop, but for a quick stop by for a game or two its awesome.

2. 30 feet, directly across the street = http://whitemarsh.tiltedkilt.com/

GW White Marsh is cool, but cramped. There's a comic store in Parkville called Collector's Corner that has started a 40k night on Thursdays. I've only been once and it was me and the friend I brought, but he has a nice table and plenty of folding tables if it gets crowded. Randy, the owner, is a really good dude. He also does 10% of GW.

Anybody looking for a game on 3/11 at the GW White Marsh ?

Been playing a little over a year, but still new. Just looking to pick up some experience.

Horrific Howling Banshee

Glen Burnie, MD

Games and Stuff is an independent store in Glen Burnie that does miniatures nights mondays and tuesdays. Lots of good scenery and large tables to play on. Thursdays they do d&d, they also stock pretty much all d&d products and a lot of 3rd party d&d accessories. They also carry malifaux, warmachine/hordes, p3 and vallejo paints, and some pre-painted 3rd party scenery as well as a large selection of the GW goodies.

Rumors are around that the glen burnie battle bunker WILL be re-opening but they still haven't found a location for it yet. I refuse to play in arundel mills, the store is horribly small for gaming or painting, and has far too much foot traffic. Havent seen the columbia or pasadena stores.

I'll plug St. Thomas in Owings Mills. Dave, the manager, is really great! Chatting with him is worth dropping in, even just to say hello. The store has 3 of the 4x6 tables for gaming, plus the painting table. There is plenty of space around the tables, so you can actually walk when people are playing (something I really like). We have an email list and a "fan" page on Facebook, so if you want to set up a game last minute, those improve your odds... but it is common for walk ins get a game, too.

@jb50c- The St Thomas gaming scene is pretty casual, so new players should not be concerned about face smashing... just let your opponent know you're learning, and you should be good. Doesn't guarantee you'll win, but will help arranging/setting the scene for the match.

Besides, the store is between Baskin Robbins and Starbucks, what's not to like? You can even pick up the Starbucks WiFi... SHHHHHH!

Hello,

Baltimore is a great city but you may want to look outside of the city for a place to live. Laurel is good but you may also want to look at the Bowie/Crofton areas. Crofton's Anne Arundel County, MD has good schools and you would not be far from Annapolis or Washington, DC. There are gamers in the area and the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society also has three conventions per year in Pennsylvania. I have a small group of gamer, including a father and young son, in Bowie who play Warhammer Fantasy and Mordheim, if you are interested in joining us you would be welcome.

Welcome to Maryland

Jb50c,

Dakka_3x and myself will be up at GW white marsh 3/11. It's apocalypse night. What time were you thinking about going up there? What army(ies) do you play?

Cheers

That's cool. I didn't know it was apocalypse night. I wouldn't mind getting in on that. Is it a free-for-all or do the black/red shirts run it? I was planning on getting there sometime around 5-5:30 (minus the time to grab something from Starbucks). What time do they typically start?

I run Blood Angels and Tau and can field somewhere between 2000-2500 for each. Do they normally have a points level for the apoc games or does it depend on the number of people playing?

The manager is running it.. He said they will start around 12 and will go all day long. He also so said bring whatever. you got, we'll put it on the table and try to do as much damage as possible. It's pretty much who ever shows up.

Dakka_X3 will most likely bring eldar / orks.
I'm bringing Nids.

If you guys get tired of the fish bowl that is GW White Marsh, then you may want to check out the much more spacious GW Yorkridge which is not far from White Marsh. The store is quite large and has lots of parking. With its five tables and paint bar it is rare that you can't find a place to play or hobby.

The community at Yorkridge is very friendly and most people bring casual lists. Weeknights tend to attract the twenty something crowd. They are joined on the weekend by a large group of high schoolers who are very into the hobby.

Helixthief- the Inner Circle gaming club is really into participating and even running tournaments, so if you're looking for some "serious" play, you might want to look them up. Casual gamers, not so much but I enjoy running against really hard lists and they will bring them.

For the person who asked about the Battle Bunker, it looks to be opening at the end of April or May, in Bowie... here's the N&R thread with info:

The Yorkridge store also sounds great from what you guys are describing, it's a little too far for me to get to easily, though.

Inner circle gaming club, Fredeerick Area Gamers both may provide some gaming opportunities. Our traditional whiskey & 40k (and cigar) nights also happen in MD, but up 270 past Germantown. Slightly older crowd there, though, mostly late 20s, 30s, 40s.

Moving flat out..

GW White Marsh / @ the Avenue is a bit on the smallish side but the manager and staff are great + plus it's close to my son's school + a place called the Tilted Kilt across the street is a great place for a post (or pre) game drink.

I'll probably swing by tomorrow. Hopefully, I can squeeze into the Apoc game late or start something on the side.

See you guys there. I'll be the short dude with the red (and grey) beard.

I'm chiming into this thread after the fact where I think I saw you in the store on Saturday - I was the guy with my son (buying the HE Army Book) and talking to Duane about the Apoc Game my Eldar missed.

The red (and grey) beard was the link (And you had Blood Angels).

Anyway, sorry to miss out on Friday night - but I'm up there all the time and we should get a game together.

Hey man.

Sorry I missed you. I asked/looked around for Eldar and didn't see any.

Anytime you want to get a game in let me know. Weeknights/Friday Nights are actually better for me. It was a weird weekend with the family out of town. I was in the store Fri/Sat/Sun. That never happens.

That Apoc game (and the mega battle on Sat) was crazy. I think I like the one on ones better as I can go at an easier pace.

If you can give me a couple days notice I can usually make it. It's hard for me to do things short notice. I can PM you my # if you want to text me the next time you'll be up there. I'd love to take on the Eldar. I still owe them for a whooping I took from them in an Apoc game on New Years.

Dakka_x3,

I think I can make it up on Thursday 3/17 in the afternoon/evening, if you want to get a game in.

If GW is packed we can always swing by CC.

Thanks for the game man. That was fun.

I now hate Banshees. They are sick.

I hope to have some time in the next couple of weeks to get another game in. I also don't mind hosting a game. It's an easier sell to the wife.

Perhaps a team game. I shouldn't have trouble finding a fourth if you and Joe are interested.

Yep - busy night at the GW-WhiteMarsh. And was able to celebrate right afterwards at the Tilted Kilt across the street.

Banshees with their DoomSeer = death to power armor, candy colored marines with squishy insides. HaHA!

I'm up for games whenever - let's make it happen.
