First of all sorry mods if this is in the wrong section, as it's not an actual sale thread I felt the swap shop wasn't a suitable place. Anyway, having seen some fantastic looking scenery over on warseer lately, that had been cast in plaster using the Hirst Arts moulds, it's left me wanting to get some of the moulds to create myself some unique terrain, but as any of you that have seen the moulds for sale, you'll know that they don't come cheap. So I've been debating making some other pieces to sell on as a way of helping to recoup the costs of the moulds and casting materials. So would anyone on here possibly be interested in buying such things? Would be gothic 40k type stuff at least at the start. Price would depend on the material used, as plaster is much cheaper to use, but pieces made from plaster end up weighing a couple of kg's each for decent sized buildings. Whereas resin moulded buildings would be much lighter, but resin is more expensive, and deteriorates the moulds faster than plaster. So if plaster buildings were say £35 each delivered, and resin towards £45 each delivered , for pieces covering roughly 12inches by 12inches coming already built and painted, would any of you be interested? Or if you feel those prices are to much, how much would you be willing to pay for such things?

As an idea for those of you unaware of Hirst Arts stuff, all the buildings in this thread were made via a combination of various moulds:

Or instead of buying complete built buildings, would any of you be interested in buying already cast blocks, that you could then put together however you liked, to create your own buildings

I'd definitely get some RESIN Hirst Arts models and / or kits.

I hate plaster (enhanced or otherwise) and much prefer working with resin ... I just have no desire (or time) to bother casting it.

If they were painted and put together, I'd say that's reasonable...of course I'd want to see pics.

ok, i think I'm going to start with just 3 of the gothic styled moulds for a start, they should enable me to make some nicely detailed buildings that would fit well for either fantasy or 40k, and the moulds I'm looking at would especially make some nice cathedral/church styled buildings. Would somewhere in the region of £45 for a 1ft square building seem acceptable for you, cast in resin? That price is a rough guess at best tbh though, if it's work out cheaper to produce than i expect then I'd reduce the cost accordingly, without the moulds it's hard to tell how much resin is needed per building. Final prices would simply be enough to cover the material used, help towards the mould costs, and a little bit to have made my time and effort worthwhile.

I'm certainly interested in seeing what you come up with and what you propose it terms of kits, quality. pricing, etc.

If you are going to rip the design from a model and mass produce it you need to be very careful. Ebay is closely watched by GW and other studios.

Found this out trying to source non-licensed thunderwolf rips of the GW model.

Maybe I should clarify a little, I'm not looking at trying to make a living from selling any buildings or pieces that i make, only to make a little money to cover the cost of me buying the moulds and material, and maybe make me some hobby money. I'm aware of the legality issues in place, and the fact that selling a few pieces made from Hirst's moulds is perfectly allowed, I don't currently see myself selling more than $1000 worth of pieces, so can't see that becoming a problem. Nor am i simply going to rip ideas from other models and sell on, if I were to sell pieces, they'd be buildings I'd come up with myself, simply taking inspiration from current architecture as a possible basis.

All I'm looking to sell are finished models, that would be built and painted, or batches of blocks and other pieces, so you could piece together buildings of your own design. I won't be making kits out of the pieces, where you get the blocks and instructions of how to produce a building, as this simply wouldn't be feasible in the small amounts of buildings I'm planning to produce.

Shouldn't care then. The folks I've heard of em cracking down on were doing fun stuff like ripping the molds and then mass producing injection molded plastics (like GW) and selling them for less than 1/3 the price.

Looked over the terrain in that link....they look amazing and anyone interesting in building set pieces will prolly try to snap them up.

Depending on how easy it is to cut resin, the modular walls etc could be insanely cool.

As far as I'm aware, you largely work with resin the same way as you would work with plastic, very thin pieces should be able to cut with a hobby knife, and thicker sections using a modelling saw.
