What are you using it for? Must it be polystyrene? If you're talking about a 5mm thickness, you'll have a much easier time finding a sheet of foamcore (open cell foam, although I don't believe it's expanded polystyrene, sandwiched between two sheets of poster board) at pretty much any art/hobby/office supply store.
Around here, you can pick the stuff up in poster-sized sheets for a few bucks (pretty much exclusively, actually - nothing the size you're looking for, but it's cheap enough that it doesn't kill you to have extra for your next project) and they even carry it in the small school/office supply sections at chain pharmacies and grocery stores (RiteAid, CVS, ShopRite, etc.).

Im planning on using it for making my bases a bit more interesting and it doesnt just have to be styrofoam, just something that holds paint well, polystyrene wouldnt work as its just comprssed balls esentially and cutting it will leave a texture i dont want, hence the styrofoam.
I managed to find an A4 sheet 5.5mm thick but the website never has it in stock so im askin dakka to help me find a similar sized sheet, even an A4 sheet will last me ages lol.

Anywhere near Bristol?
I've got a metricraptonne of the stuff knocking around.
I'm sure I could spare a single sheet of A4.

Good idea, and managed to find this:
http://direct.hobbycraft.co.uk/search/foamboard
For £7 its worth it but would be more useful for a game board if it was a bit thicker, never the less it would work for what i want it for.

I've used these guys before for Plasticard. And they're a UK store, so they should be good for you. They sell ten sheets of A4 5mm thick expanded pvc foam board for ten pounds. Not sure what shipping is.

@Foxtale, I have ordered a pack of them A4 5mm thick expanded pvc foam board from evil mushroom hopefully they will be made of high quality foam. Got a pack from Hobbycraft and it was terrible to cut with a modelling knife :( the edges of the foam was breaking up leaving holes.

Where in the UK are you?
It's pot luck really, but some large DIY stores have it, like B&Q, Focus and other big serious ones. But it comes with an annoying silver foil layer over the top, but that is easy to get rid of. I still have left after I filched some from a next door neighbour who was having a house extension and had some left over, very handy stuff, only use acrylic paint on it though, as some other paints melt it into a useless coloured goo.

I’m from Kent, I used to have some foam boards i got on eBay a few years ago but can’t remember which seller :( they were great quality could cut tiny squares and would have perfect edges. Wish i had saved the seller.
Will try checking B&Q cheers.

If quality is an issue, move away from craft suppliers and try acrhitectural suppliers. The product is far better suited to precision cuts, as it's used specifically to make scale models of buildings.
