Hrm so I had a bit of confusion over the rules for assaulting fleeing units as I was reading the rulebook today. The way it was worded said that if your unit is fleeing while you are falling back you must test to regroup (at which point it says to see the section on regrouping) and it makes me wonder if the normal restrictions apply, like being under half strength or within 6" of an enemy unit. If that were the case you would automatically destroy the unit technically if you were going to assault it with any unit 6" away. I don't really know where I stand on this one, most people in my local area would assume you take your test to regroup and then fight or be destroyed as normal. I'd like to hear what the wider gaming world has to say about this.

What I'm wondering is whether or not the normal restrictions apply, as in can you regroup under 50% strength etc?

Paragraph four, column two, page 46 of the rulebook. It's addressed in its own paragraph in the rules.

It is the last sentence in the paragraph below the regrouping restriction bullet points. note that the rest no longer applies when they are assaulted and pass the LD test, they do not get the 3" consolidation move, and if the test fails they are destroyed per the assaults while falling back rules.
Basically the only portion you need of the regrouping rules is the second paragraph, and the third paragraph.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

If you assault falling back Space Marines, they will regroup will they not? (which is an exception to the above rule)

So don't assault them - chase them off the board. That really makes marine players rage.

Or assault them with something that will wipe them out in one turn, so you can consolidate further in the direction you want to go.
I claimed an objective that way. Excellent fun
