Well I had this great long post explaining the 5 major factions of Malifaux and then my computer crashed. Right now i'm to pissed to retype it so I'll leave you with this for now.
There are 5 main factions in Malifaux, they are all unique and contain their own masters and henchmen, there are far to many to list and more are always being added. I would recommend that your first purchases be the first rule book and the expansion, it will give you all the rules you need as well as the rules and stats for every peice wyrd has or is going to make for the near future.

The nice thing about Malifaux is you can choose basically any Faction and still find a crew that fits your play style.
You might want to head over to the Wyrd forums for more reading. It's just too much to regurgitate here.

If you have any specific questions I'd be glad to answer them, explain the factions is kind of broad though.

Long story short, there are the Guild, the Outcasts, the Arcanists, the Neverborn, and the Resurectionists.
The Guild is essentially the supreme law in Malifaux. They may not have good intentions as their main goal, but they do help keep all of the opposing factions in check.
The Arcanists are the smugglers in Malifaux. They are not necessarily bad even though they are painted that way by the Guild, but they can be compared to Robin Hood, sort of. They are also not based around good intentions, but they are also not bad people in the grand scheme of things.
The Neverborn, are all of the monsters that you hear about in Malifaux, from big demons with horns and the likes, to small babies who are also secretly monsters. These are the true bad guys. (At least in the eyes of the humans, they might try to argue their good-ness)
The Ressurectionists are the necromancers, although they are more sinister. Ultimately, these guys are also bad guys, but it may be because they are megalomaniacs, or because they are just looking for revenge (like Kirai).
Lastly there is the Outcasts. These guys are just your run of the mill mercenaries. Whether they are evil and stupid, like the gremlins, or a chick looking for the truth, like the Viktorias. Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: That is just a very VERY vague overview of the entire thing. What Wyrd did was gave every individual character for the most part their own fluff.

What are the NeverbornLillith and Legion of sorrow box playstyles like?
Also the Ressurectionist mc mourning and kiri boxed sets like?
I also like the doppleganger mini (nice on the front hideous on the back- I love it!) which is Neverborn I think. Does this compliment any of the two neverborn boxes?
What additions would be good for either of the ressurectionist?
Also can I mix and match across factions - Ie could I have kiri with flesh golems and nurses and mc mourning with her spirits?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I've been bruned out from Malifaux for awhile but thanks to a FLGS owner I'm back!
To answer your questions. Lillith herself is an entierlly close combat oriented master, she lacks a ranged attack, but she does play around with peoples CB. As for her minions, she relies on Nephilim. With the Nephilim every time you succesfully kill a model you gain a Blood token, basically what you do is you start out with a lot of small minions, the Terror Tot Nephilim, you discard the Blood token and you replace the Terror Tot with Young Nephilim. You can do the same thing with the Young Nephilim but it costs two Blood Tokens. This is a very close combat oriented army and has little if any ranged combat.
Pandora is all about WP duels, and useing them to influence your enemies models and their activations. She is by no meens a strong combat master, but instead she sits back and influences the game against your opponant. The Sorrows in the box are more or less extentions of Pandora. The rest of the models in the box follow suit. This army really gains strength when you throw in a couple of Teddies. However this is definatly a subtel army to play.
Mc Mourning again this is a close combat centered army, he is a summoning master, your force on the field should grow as the game progressis.
Kirai is another close combat master. The trick to her is that during the game you can take wounds to summon various levels of spirits.
With all of the masters being so close combat oriented your going to have to really be careful when going against a ranged army as you likely won't make it across the board.
The Doppleganger is awsome, when used properly, you really need to pair it with something that has a powerful spell or attack. For example I love to pair a doppleganger with Lord Chompy Bits and use his Ten-Inch Claws attack.. As far as complimenting any of the two neverborn boxes you mentioned, I'd have to say no...
Your going to want to make sure to pick up the models that both of the resurectionist masters summon.
You can only use mercanariry models outside of their faction, these models will be found in the outcasts faction and do not include any of the Gremlins.
Hope this helps, if your looking for more specifics I would recomend picking up both of the books. Wait on the 1st book though, in early January it is being updated and they are releaseing a core rule set both in free online PDF form and in an 8.5" x 5.5" rulebook.

Just wanted to add that some masters can have non faction crew other than outcasts as their rules allow. For Example Kirai can add any spirit to her crew iirc. There are others but I don't know them off the top of my head

Well of course they are which is implied in my post. Since Phototoxin asked specifically if Kirai could mix and match I thought it relevant to point out that she in fact can do this with spirits.
