Well, as weird as it may sound, the title says it all. The only problem I'm having is choosing the miniature:

I know she doesn't love the 40k style all that much. She doesn't play or anything so whatever I paint will be a one off display piece. So ideas wise, I've had a few: In my student house she's sometimes jokingly called 'the troll' because her room is a tip and like a troll cave (hey she plays up to it, she's not really troll like at all ) so I thought about getting her a troll miniature. Some of them are humerous, pretty 'comical' minis. However, they're all pretty expensive. You see, this is only going to be one little present of many, and I'd rather not spend all my budget on a figure I mean as a lighthearted joke.

Sooooo, I'm asking you guys for advice. What fun figures are out there under £10? Are there any miniatures you just really like; beautiful single sculpts? Any models you feel might appeal to a girl who doesn't really know this whole 'gaming' thing too well, but can appreciate the coolness or beauty of it. You know, elven heroes, wizards, trolls! Or even stuff from further afield like miniatures of actors, characters from films. Whatever!

Thanks

Way on back in the deep caves

Reaper makes some angels as well as some seasonal figures. There is a Santa and a nativity that are waiting to be released.
I have gone this route before and found that if they percieve it as useful, as a holiday decoration for example, they will seem to like it more.

A few years back I painted 2 cats for my wife, painted in the same patterns as our own real cats, and based together. She LOVED it.

Dark Sword miniatures all the way. They have rightly-proportioned models with a lot of things to choose from, even Guinea Pig samurai and Dog warriors or something. They both have cute and cool miniatures, as well as stylish ones like this:

Needless to say, I'm a fan of Victorian era-style clothes.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Depending on much of a geek you GF is you could also try out Heresy Mini's in the Sci-Fi section.
Some good movie/TV show character models, if she's a fan of those.

If you want to keep things cheap, avoid minis from the more popular wargames (GW, PP, etc.). There are dozens of quality minis to be found from companies like Reaper, as well as a bunch of no-name brands, meant for generic nerdy desk-decor or use in D&D/nondescript fantasy boardgames and RPGs. Do an Ebay search and you'll get more results than you'll care to look at.
