Hey all,
I've finally made it around to painting my shrine of the Aquila from GW and I would like to give the windows a stained glass look. Anyways, does anyone know where I could get my hands on a semi-transparent plastic that's colored like stained glass but easy to cut to shape?
Also, has anyone used LED's to backlight these types of windows? If so, any lessons learned would be appreciated.

I can't help with the led, but for the stained glass you can use gw gloss finish with some food coloring added in on pretty much any type of clear plastic.

Theres stain glass window kits online for smaller projects, i remember using it back in high school a good few years ago lol.
The only drawback is that the black outline probly wouldnt look right for 28 mm unless the window was massive.

Try using inks on clear blister plastic and use a black permanent marker (Sharpie brand is excellent) to make the panes. I remember seeing something along those lines in an old WD article for a ruined church in fantasy. It looked really great!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

You don't need trasparent plastic just get thin plastic and shine a light on it I tryed it before and it was brillant.

You could try overhead projector sheet plastic and use inks. there maybe some felt tip pens that can do it too.

Get the design you want printed onto transparency.
Cut it out (allowing for space around it so that it will glue adequately.)
That's what I do.
I have a sheet of "stained glass" window art that I use for the job. It can be enlarged/reduced for the purposes.

I've done this before with success here:

For colored plastic, there are transparent colored slim-line CD cases sold at office supply stores that I've seen, before. I'm sure you could chop up a few of those. The plastic is relatively thin, too, so they shouldn't give you too much trouble.
If you plan on back-lighting it, I would recommend using very thin opaque plasticard colored with inks. It helps to diffuse the light so you don't have A) an unsightly and unrealistic point of really bright light in one spot and B) the colors of your "glass" being washed out by the light.

I’m currently experimenting with color laser transparency film. I found some stained glass images via google and printed them (note on printer settings do not use photo quality or high quality) tends to smear and the film can’t handle the ink so it appears.
I did regular print quality and they came out pretty good. Then I laminated the printed film to protect it and to give it more stability.
Tonight I’m going to try printing then sealing with decal bonder and see if that helps with holding the ink because I notice prior to laminating that the more prominent colors flaked a little.
Also the lamination step isn’t required just makes it a little more durable but most people don’t have access to a laminator and it’s not something we should run out and pay for.
Printer: Dell 3111CN
Film : HP laser jet transparency film.
