Do units that are Slow and Purposeful ("SaP") make assault moves normally, i.e. 6 inches without having to roll? This is the way I have always played it but apparently there was a question in the most recent FAQ that clarified whether characters --such as the TSons Sorc-- that are included in a SaP unit attack at I or as if having assaulted through difficult terrain. Such a question assumes SaP units cannot make assault moves normally.

They must roll as if they are moving through difficult terrain, so yes they roll 2d6 and take the highest for their charge. Mega-Nobs do the same.

S&P states they ALWAYS move as if going through difficult terrain, meaning that when you MOVE into assault you take a test.

Assault moves are normal moves with some added and some removed restrctions...

As Nos said, it is right in the SnP rules themselves, whichever page the USR are on.

So I presume there has been an entire debate on whether moving occurs in the movement phase and assaulting occurs in the assualt phase therefore no "move as if in diff. terrain when assaulting?"

No, because the only way you know how to move is given by the movememnt phase.

If you attempt to say assault /= movement phase therefore no rules of the movement phase apply then you cannot move ANYWHERE in assault, as you have no rules telling you how to.

Plus you KNOW it follows the rules for the movement phase: it states the restriction on moving within 1" of an enemy model is lifted. This resitriction is only found in the movement phase, ergo you are following the rules fuond in the movement phase.

I hate not having my book on me. Is the trigger for the reduction in initiative to assault through cover or through difficult / dangerous terrain? For the most part it's moot, as most SaP models are either I-1 already or using power fist / klaw...

It is taking a difficult or dangerous terrain test. Clearly written in the rulebook with no ambiguity possible.

You're thinking of 4th ed...

Never played 4th ed. I moved at the end of third, then deployed, then spent some time in a hospital... The changes from third to fifth are a PITA.
