Here are a couple Storm Lords version of Captain Lysander that I painted recently. My client sent me all of the pieces he wanted used for this mini, so I can't take full credit for that:

That's at least two kits. I spy the Chaos Lord cloak.

It's a very nice model, though. I'm a fan of the gold on the shield.

Great pose, very imposing and action orientated without being all limbs akimbo crazy dance.

Nice and subtle use of weathering without being over the top.

What Earthbeard said. Especially the phrase "all limbs akimbo crazy dance."

Only criticism is that the end of the grime on the cloak and leading leg shin seems a bit sudden, leaving a rather stark line. You've definitely struck a nice balance, color-wise, leaving the halved scheme apparent without going the "everything on this side of the middle line is X color, the other side is Y" route. The muted metalics break everything up nicely, without detracting from the scheme.

At this point, I've painted up quite a number of half and half marines (including a fairly large force of Storm Lords).

One of the tricks to keeping it working on the characters is to use the colors on the details, but don't necessarily keep it too strict. For example, on his shield, his heraldry and his cape, the core colors are used, but they break up the half and half enough to help balance him out.

Another point is that I used a very warm white on this mini (it highlights up through bone). It helps the white blend in with the red, where a stark cold white or blue white would have been too stark.

edit: I'm not 100% sure which marine kit the head came from, but overall I think this mini is just an assault terminator with a Chaos Lord cape. My client actually sent me all of the bits in a bag together, so I didn't really do that conversion myself.

He did not give me instructions on the pose, and I really do feel like I nailed that one.

I really like the unique color scheme. It is halved, yet you have left certain parts painted in metal to give it a real mechanic feel...as if the marine in power armor stepped into a terminator suit (that may sound confusing). I agree with the weathered effects to the cloak, blend it in better and theis model will look fantastic!
