Good evening folks

Sorry if this isn't in the right forum, thought this was as good as any!

Quick query - I'm struggling to come up with ideas for my own chapter, I've seen plenty of great examples and don't want to copy wherever possible haha.
I'm just wondering if someone knows of a good article or guide either on this site or elsewhere that would explain to go about the best way of creating your own chapter including special/command type units and so on.

Also I haven't played WH40k in about 5 years...so I'm waaaay out of sync with the rules. I picked up a copy of the latest Codex (Space Marines) from eBay so am trying to read up whenever I get a chance but need a rough guide of how to kick off say a 1000 point army or something. Just something I could practice with till I get the hang of the rules again etc.

Don't even get me started on name/colour scheme...that's a whole different problem to overcome lol.

I'm quite keen on the theme of my army being based around Assault/Fast Attack units.

Thanks for any help and advice.

You could look online and you'll find a few guides.

This is what I had found when I looked online which helped me or my gf when we were making our chapters:

http://www.librarium-online.com/featured/designing-a-space-marine-chapter-99.html

http://warpstorms.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=imperium&action=display&thread=90

but to be honest they really all start to say the same thing after reading them, it just says to get some ideas and go with them haha.

Like I wanted to do a blood angel assault squad focused army, I named them the sky-wardens and just started making simple fluff, mostly that they are from the BA and that they use solely jump-packs. Then I started writing stories of them and by doing so I started altering and changing my views of what kind of marines they were.

Just try to get a general idea and then over time it should get cleaned up till you really have some clear fluff.

I agree with this, just dont go overboard like matt Ward and you should be solid.

Just remember great war successes have often cost in blood. Marines are no different.

800 brethren and 2,000 other personnel were expected to reach Crows World within no more than 12 hours. They never arrived.

Let the Bell toll for those that encounter us, not for what we have encountered!
