I was at my FLGS the other day and noticed that there was a new version of the Civilization Board Game for $60. I'm a huge fan of the series in general, and I love board games, but I wanted to know if this one was worth the price. I did a few Google searches, but most of the reviews I find are for the old one. Has anyone played the new Civ board game? And if so, how is it? Is it worth a $60 price? My buddy and I were planning on using our prize money from the latest league cycle at my FLGS, but we've also got our eyes on the new Flying Frog game, Invasion from Outer Space.

My Armies:
Kal'reia Sept Tau - Farsight Sympathizers
Da Great Looted Waaagh!

Assuming this is the Civ Board Game based on the Civ computer games and not the old Avalon Hill Civ game, its pretty cool. I've played an older version and had fun. The main thing everyone playing needs to understand is that it is meant to be a mix of military and political/technological/cultural victories to secure a win... Just trying to build the biggest army will lose, as will trying to dominate the wonders and techs.

It is a long game... I don't think we've quite finished a game the 2-3 times we've played. There's some options in the rules to start everyone a bit more 'developed' to skip the first 2-3 boring turns as well as options to end at an 'era' break so you can call it before everyone is bleary-eyed.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.
