A buddy of mine and I were looking over all the codexes at our flgs and we seen the Turbo-Penetrator round got 3D6 for Armor Pen. We are now wondering how that works with the Necron Monolith's living armor rule. Thanks in advance guys and gals.

Very simple, its only allowed the weapon strength plus a 'single' D6 no matter what.

I also started a thread about the 'Living Metal' rule just over a week ago and it helps clarify what can and cant harm a Monolith, take a look, heres the thread...

Yea, I seen that, but What we were wondering about was that it said "The Turbo-Penetrator has an Armor Penetration value of 3D6."

If it's AP is just 3D6, does that mean that it would be 1D6 for the Strength, and then 1D6? or just 1D6?

Or would it be 3(the strength of a sniper rifle) + 1D6?

Or does it get all 3 dice as its AP?

The part that makes us wonder is because Living Metal states that its additional D6. In this case it's deciding the Armor Penetration not rolling additional D6.

Its the unaugmented strength of weapon and a single D6 no matter what the rules of the weapon firing state so it would be the 'normal' strength of the weapon, so 3 if from a sniper rifle as you say and a single D6, nothing else...

This is brought up everytime someone finds a weapon that has a defined penetration. If you want to see previous discussions, look up melta bombs vs living metal.

So that special shot would do nothing then?

Nope would'nt do a thing due to the 'living metal' rule.

Note that the previous FAQ DID list the TP as the only exception to the "no matter what" rule.

Where does it say the unaugmented strength of the weapon? It's not taking any bonus penetration, as the special rule says, it's just setting the Armor Penetration to 3D6.

Didn't see Nosferatu's post...

So if it's not in the current FAQ anymore, does it still count?

The last paragraph of the Living Metal rule on pg 21 of the Necron Codex..
'In practice, any weapon attacking the Monolith will roll for Armour Pentration using its unaugmented strength and a single D6 no matter what'

My codex only has one paragraph about living metal on page 21. The last line is: Ordinance weapons still get 2D6 for Armor Penetration and select the highest.

You're using the first printing of the Necron codex.

I'd suggest you check on the first page and see if it says Second Printing, mine says this right at the bottom but just above the addresses of GW, if not then you have an older codex as the paragraph i quoted directly follows what you quoted.

Pretty much just Living Metal.

Thats good to know...So I don't need a new codex...just need to remember there's a ninja paragraph hidden within the inks of the paper...

If you use the FAQ I believe it still lists the extra rule. Worth having anyway as the FAQ tells you how to move falling back, downed necrons awaiting WBB

Yea, I was looking at it earlier, guess I didn't remember reading it there, lol.

I've checked over the Necron FAQ 2009 which is the most upto date as per GW website and it still lists nothing extra about Armour Penetration with the Turbo Penetration, simply states that certain close combat weapons such as powerfists do double their strength for AP and thats all.

Nos when was the older FAQ dated from that specified the TP as the only exception?

The older FAQ doesn't matter now. It's quite simple, str+1d6 only, ever, no matter what. Doesn't matter if your weapon has a set Pen value or an additional d6 to the pen value, you only get the benefit of 1d6.

1. Living metal, as discussed.
2. A unit that has already moved may NOT be teleported through the portal
3. Removed the word 'staionary', so if the Monolith moved before teleporting a unit, they count as disembarking from a moving vehicle.
