Hey guys!

So I was looking through the DE codex, and one thing that immediately caught my eye was the Chronos Parasite Engine. Having never actually attempted a scratchbuild/kitbash model, I decided this was the perfect time to give it a try (plus, GW has said that 90% of the DE codex will have models by June, so if it turns out bad, soon I shall be able to hide my shame, haha!)

Here's what I have so far:

Next on the list of things to do are getting an ork buzzsaw for the right arm area (under the spear), getting a painboy and cutting down his left arm to steal the syringe, and then attempting to use greenstuff to make it look less like four carnifex carapaces and some genestealer talons

The one thing I'm still wondering...as you can see in the last picture, the underside is very open and empty, but I don't know what I could fill it with. Any ideas? I want something that can hide all the various things attached under there, but not something that will weight down the model like crazy.

As always, thanks in advance for your replies!!

I have seen people fill it with Foil covered with GS/Miliput/etc to save on the cost of a solid model. But, if you can't see it, why bother, looks good so far.

Ah, I didn't think of filler and then something nice on the outside. I plan on basing it with the front a bit raised, so I don't want the underside to look unfinished. Maybe ill try something with plasticard, too. If it is a machine, maybe it can just have a flat bottom with some gs'd features.

I'll post more pics when I get the saw and syringe, before I start the greenstuff.

Fill it with JB weld, then use a skin of GS to add detail. You've got a nice start to the model there....don't forget to use GS on the joins to smooth it together.

Oh, that's a good idea too. I've never used JB weld before. I'll have to try it out, thanks for the idea!

And I know I have a lot of gs work ahead of me, and I am really not good with the stuff, so this will be my first real test, haha!

You know, I don't think that little picture in the middle of the page is the actual parasite engine...any more than the severed head with a blade shoved through it is a voidraven bomber.

I guess it works, I just don't think that's what the actual model will look like.

So what should he do, not play a Cronos at all?

I think it looks pretty good so far - reminded me a little of a truncated Necron tomb stalker. Please post more pics as you crack on with it.

Yeah, the picture on the Chronos page shows up elsewhere in the book as well, so I have a feeling you're right. But without any kind of picture to go on, I just went with the fact that that picture looks cool. Plus it kinda looks like the Talos, without the whole scorpion tail thing. So maybe it is. Regardless, I'll be replacing it with the GW mini when it comes out anyway, whatever it looks like.

If you make a great conversion, there is no need to shell out more money to GW. As long as it is about the same size and on the correct size base most players would not have any issue playing a converted model, as long as they are told what it is.

I like it and think you should keep it. It looks like a parasite engine to me. Or some kind of nid but It looks nice enough not to replace in any case.

Ok, so finally got the Ork buzz saw and a Painboy, chopped the painboy's arm down to nothing, pinned the saw and syringe, and added an eye for good measure.

Sorry for the hand, the Chronos isn't actually attached to the base yet, so this was the only way to make it not fall forward since the metal bits make it so top heavy.

Hopefully later on the week I'll get a chance to sit down and start greenstuffing the carapace and it will start to lose some of its 'nid looks, at least a little bit.

I like it. One of the better Cronos I have seen. Well done.

This is the first chronos ive seen, but it definately isnt bad. I think you should consider adding more DE type bits to it. They seem to adorn their characters and vehicles with blades, this should also have some. Just a thought, nice work though

You know when I saw the very lazily drawn sketch of the cronos in the codex, I thought what an ugly thing, I'd do mine completely different.

However, yours looks brilliant. I can't wait to see it painted.
