Howdy folks, just got into 40k recently and picked up Assualt on Black Reach at the end of September, but what with finding and getting a new job, the training involved and 1 or 2 family crisis happening at once I have finally gotten around to putting some of it together.
My question is this:
A few of the Space Marines and Orcs I have put together do not seem to sit right in the round bases provided, is this because each figure sits in a specific base or is it some other reason? It is causing me major hassle and was wondering if anyone can help.
I know this is an invitation to be flamed but I am very new to the hobby and want to do the best I can with what I have.

Thanks

Welcome to the hobby Robertm80! How is it they are not sitting right? If you're talking about a foot or something overlapping the edge a bit, that's not unusual. Could you take a pic?

Hey man, welcome to the hobby. The terminators and the Ork boss sit in the larger bases (40mm), and all of the other infantry models are on the small bases 920mm). It's just one of the quirks of the molding process that makes the bases not sit right: just super glue them into place. It doesn't matter which small base goes with which tactical marine or ork boy. Hope this helps. The guys on here are pretty friendly, if you have any more questions, just ask. Somebody will answer when they can

Hey guys, thanks for the advice, the models are not sitting correctly, such as front heavy marines tipping forward, or the orcs falling backwards, I figured I would need to super glue them in place. I will look into doing this as soon as possible.

Edit - Sorry for my rudeness, thanks for the welcomes as well.

I'll add that sometimes gluing a model to it's base before adding the arms and what-not makes assembling them much easier.

I usually do legs\feet, then torso, then head, then arms. Working on more then one at a time keeps you from grabbing one that hasn't dried yet.

The bottom of their feet are not flat, so they will wobble until you glue them down. If you want to go the easy way, just drop a bit of glue down. if you wanna get professional, use a file and carefully file down the soles of their feet until you're happy.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

i know what your problem is

you will notice that the slots are slightly off-center. all the models are tilted slightly forward(especially the orks)

if you put them in so that the model's front is facing the side of the base that is larger they won't fall and will be sturdier. if they won't fit into the slot itself you can just file the tab down a bit with something.

the Dreadnought, Terminators, and the Warboss will require you to drill a hole through the base. if you flip their bases over you will see little hollow studs. if you drill through these they will fit the little plugs coming off these models foots. just figure out which studs position will give you the most pleasing angle for the model.

just wait untill you get to assemble your first multi-part kit

I also got the AoBR box, and I found the nobz are extremely front heavy. They fall over all the time. It's just how they are modelled.

You should try weighting the bases. helps with wobbly models. I used quarters for mine. Don't know if there's a cheaper alternative in british coins. you could use washers or whatever. something heavy anyways

Yeah I used pennies for mine. I think quarters would stick out past the base

Nickels fit perfectly inside a non slotted base, and a re plenty heavy to keep even metal minis upright. Quarters They take enough money from you man, and you put quarters on your minis

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I will be looking into weighting the bases, that seems like the best option at the moment.
I am thinking Space Marines for my first army but I am fascinated by the Chaos faction and may branch into setting up a chaos army too. I am very new to the whole 40k Universe so I am still learning about the different factions and their pros and cons, I love the fiction behind it so that is why I was first interested in Space Marines as a starting point.

Start with what you like, that will make you happy. After that, go with a stronger/better I win at all costs type of army
