Subject: Da Bad Gretchins (an alternate build for my orks.)

hey all. I recently won a sweet deal on ebay and managed to get around a hundred plastic gretchin models for 20 bucks. Building an ork list, I know I'll never use them, but I had a kind of fun idea for an alternate army list (and fluff, because I love fluff) for my orks. I was interested if anyone had ever tried an all gretchin army.
Essentially, there would be 3-6 mobs or gretchin, varying in terms of size, depending on whether I felt like I wanted lots of small mobs or a few really huge ones. They'd be backed up by big gunz, a battlewagon I modeled to have gretchin swarming all over it, and a Kan wall. I figure the gunz and the wagon will attack enemy vehicles, while the kans try and engage heavier infantry and the gretchin mobs make a nuisance of themselves swarming every which way. Since my pack didn't come with any runtherds, I've modeled "gretchin sergeants" to take their place, giving them electro spears and claw like weapons to count for runt'erd weaponry.
As far as I can tell, the biggest weakness of my army will be morale tests, which I have to worry about the least when I have a good large mob of the little greenies, and most when I have smaller ones. I also don't have a heck of a lot of options anti-infantry wise, which is why the wagon is armed to the teeth with a rolla, lots of upgrades, grot riggers (of course), and as many big shootas as it can handle as well as a lobba for blasting. against vehicles, well, I have a lot of cannons. A lot of cannons. and a few zzap guns too, for the heck of it. That will have to do, along with the kan wall.
thoughts on this build? Advice that might fit well with the fluff?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I think your biggest weakness would be that Gretchin suck No saves at all makes them really really vulnerable so you would put a lot of eggs in the battlewagon basket me thinks. However, for a fun list it would rock completely Just imagine, grots everywhere! If you ever go through with this, make sure to post pictures.

A few people here on dakka have made a all grot army like CommissarKhaine http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/266318.page
His army is great.
Heres another one, I haven't looked at it before http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/323376.page
There is another but I can't find it now. Next time maybe you should use the search funtion on dakka, it's really helpful
Hope this helps

No armor saves at all, versus the ork boys 6+.... is there really that much of a difference? Besides the nasty decrease in toughness they get, basically any hits will kill gretching.
I laid out my proposed army out on the table, though... 1000 points... upwards of 120 models. Sooooo many gretchins. I'll have to try this, just to see my opponent's face when the shrill green wave starts to roll across the table...

Stick a BigMek or 2 in there, and they will get the same cover save as any other Ork unit. Its a crazy idea, but it sounds like a hell of alot of fun

hmmm... I'd have to convert a big mek to a gretchin unit. Maybe a whole bunch of gretchin holding up a flimsy force field? I can't just have 2 orks and then all gretchin, I have to stay consistant!
